What's your opinion concerning the Canon 28-135 3.5/5.6 IS USM ? Any alternatives ?

I have that lens. Probably my most widely used, and most versatile. I'd recomend it

opinons vary. it's a general run of the mill lens. not that sharp wide open. it's not one I would ever consider owning.

I have 17-85is, 70-200 f2.8 sigma, 30mm f1.4 sigma. I plan to sell the 17-85 and replace with sigma 18-50 f2.8 and 24-105 IS f4 L

I have that lens. While it's OK, as Poah says, it's run of the mill. It will take great images if you're not enlarging massively. However, mine has broken, it fell apart inside, so I'll probly be getting the 24-105L IS. HTH.

Its on my camera most of the time. Its a good lens and with IS you don't have to open up so often - I'm more a member of the f64 club than the f2.8 club though !

Quite happy with mine. It's my "walkabout" lens since i sold the 18-55 with the good old 300D.

An example, JPEG out of the Camera (20D) No PS-ing done.

Probably 80% of my images are taken using that lens.

Judge for yourself it it's "any good".

were all taken with that lens.

It's a great lens for the money. I've taken plenty of shots with mine that I'm happy with, before I upgraded to the 24-70L when I got my DSLR.

You can buy faster, sharper and better built lenses (e.g., Canon 24-70L, 24-105L), but you'll pay more for them, and they will be bigger/heavier too.

As you've got the 20D, with it's 1.6x crop factor, you might want to look at the Canon EF-S 17-85 f4-5.6 IS, which will give a similar reach to the 28-135mm on a full frame body.

Also, Sigma do the 24-135mm f2.8-4.5, although I've not used this one myself.
