dropbox on an ///M Mac issues - seem to be sorted . . .
Discussion
I have about 2TB of stuff on my Dropbox Account - I use a lot of it on a daily basis - and have had an intel mac for 10 years - just bought a new mac (M1) and the dropbox app is very different . . .
you can now only use an external drive if it is AFPS ENCRYPTED
it is suggesteed that you use Apple File Provider - to "enhance" lol the experience
For 4 weeks I have been battling these issues . . .
1 - endless syncing
2 - endless indexing
3 - while all this shizz is going on I am unable to use my files on my mac
4 - every time I restart the machine - we go into endless syncling and indexing mode again
When I got the new machine, I used migration assistant, which obviously copies a lot of your files and apps - without actually reinstalling them properly - for the last few days I have been looking into other providers - sync - google drive - iCloud drive etc which seem to work pretty well - but I am really reluctant to blow out DB as I have been using it for decades!
Today (and for the 8th time this month) I have deleted my local copy of my dropbox folder AND this time for the first time, I also uninstalled the DB app, downloaded a fresh copy and installed it - opted out of file provider, formatted my external hard drive and we are currently syncing/downloading and so far . . . it all seems to be much much better behaved!!
No hanging - no "syncing" message - it's just actually syncing as I would expect it to
If this doesnt work - then DB will be going in the bin and I will probably go for a sync account - which I have been testing!!

I think that's only if you set up a new account/sync location (or install from scratch on a new machine), as I've used the same external 4TB MacOS Extended formatted Seagate HDD since 2014...and over that time it's moved (via the new Mac transfer process / Migration Assistant) between my my iMac, Mac Studio M1 and my current Mac Studio M4.
I was also worried about it when I first heard about it (probably a few years ago), so wonder if it has something to do with defaulting to using Apple's newer 'File Provider API'?

just checking in - 5 days in now - and no more issues - I believe that opting OUT of File Provider was the key in getting it to work properly!
now RELAX - back to normal
Glad it got it working for you!now RELAX - back to normal
I'm in an 'argument' with a client over who owns the dropbox account that he's filling up with more and more videos of his corporate video crap (that he shares with others)
He insists it's his and he set it up and everything he can see is in his company's name.
But I pay for the Professional plan (and he doesn't get invoiced for any access/storage), it's in my name, and he can only see 1 of about 50 folders that are on there (I'm not sharing a screenshot with him as it shows other companies/rivals names).
I've suggested that I temporarily remove his access and see if he can get back in
