I'm doing a body-off rebuild on the Chimaera, and as part of the rebuild process I'm considering converting to a floor-mounted accelerator.

I love this set-up in my BMW 130, and have never been keen on the TVR pedal box (even with Leven items)- the 130's set-up is so much more pleasant to use.

If I were to go down this route, what are the mechanical/ or implementation considerations? Anything to be careful of?

Has anyone else converted their accelerator pedal before?

Thanks.

It's just pulling a cable at the end of the day. Make sure the cable aligns with the pedal OK, and you have a pedal stop that stops you stretching the cable.

Many thanks GreenV8S.

In terms of mounting, obviously these bolt onto the floor and possibly the bulkhead, dependant on pedal model...

Without having looked into it, I was guessing that glassing a metal plate into the floorpan or similar and then bolting the pedal onto that might be the way to go, to ensure structural integrity - or would there be a better way?

I have Leven pedals, so somewhat adjustable - but looking at the BMW the accelerator is set back from the brake, so they are level once the brake is depressed.

Assuming some testing of brake pedal depression, and measuring involved here to ensure correct alignment for heel and toe...

Any other thoughts, tips or warnings? Thanks.

The amount of brake travel can vary enormously depending how hot the brakes are, so make sure you take account of the range of pedal travel under heavy braking under the conditions where you want to be using heel-and-toe braking. I suggest providing some way to adjust the position of the pedal.

I wouldn't have thought it was necessary to glass plates in. The throttle pedal shouldn't be taking very high loads. If necessary you could bolt it through a plate to spread the load out a little, but I wouldn't be surprised if it was OK just with a couple of big washers. (Have you noticed how the seat mount rails are attached? They take far higher loads.)
