"Signature" cufflinks to match the watch. Patek, Cartier, Rolex etc.

I've always thought is a bit naff. Am I wrong?

Beauty is in the eye of the beholder. If someone likes them, why not?

I am trying to establish who likes them.

Because someone I know needs a gift and it is one of the ideas being discussed. I personally think they are naff but the recipient may not agree. I am canvassing opinion.

It's a forum.

Imagine just asking 'why' to every question posed.

You're really raising the broader question about "man jewellery". Bling watches and bling cuff-links both fall within that category so whether or not they match seems to make little difference.

Spotted any Casio cuff-links yet?

Easy enough to guess the recipients point of view - do they wear motorsport branded clothing while displaying their key fob?

That's fair enough. I'll admit I thought this was another inverse snobbery thread - my apologies for jumping to conclusions.

Yes, it's naff. Anything deliberately matching from the same brand, whether head to toe Adidas, or Porsche watch, sunglasses and car, is naff. At the very least it shows a lack of imagination.

You can tell I'm conflicted / confused - that's what happens when you're bored rigid waiting in A&E, doomscrolling... biggrin

In which case, we are back to beauty is in the eye of the beholder. He may love horological themed cufflinks, he may think they are awful, or he may not even wear cufflinks.

Personally I would choose a different gift. This one is far too niche to risk buying.

Canvassing the opinions of others is pointless IMO. It only matters if the person receiving the gift likes them.

I have the 'matching' cufflinks for two of my watches.

What is your aversion to them?

Possibly the same attraction as matching collar and cuffs.

Is it a bit like matching pocket square and tie?

I prefer vintage cufflinks on the rare occasions I get to wear them these days & none of them match my watch brands. It all becomes a bit Joey from Friends twirling his Porsche keyring etc IMHO.

I don't think so but I understand those who do. Generally, the cufflinks complement the watch rather than 'match' it, as in your example, which I agree is tragic.

If you are dressed correctly (which I assume would be the case if cufflinks are being considered) very few people will see your watch and cufflinks in conjunction for long enough to even notice.

I think as a gift, they’d be well received and not considered to be naff.

However, as always with gifts, it’s the thought of the giver that is more valuable than the gift itself.

So, if I (as someone who doesn’t like cufflinks and only wears them with my dinner jacket a couple of times a year) received some watch branded cufflinks, I’d be grateful and would wear them now and again, while thinking fondly of whoever gave them to me.

But I’d never buy cufflinks to match my watch - I’d regard it as naff. And, although I’m not a Rolex owner/wearer, the idea of of buying oneself matching Rolex accessories would be super cringe to me (although 100% on brand….).

Not a helpful answer, I admit. OP only you know your friend/proposed recipient and the sort of tastes they have..!
