Toyota confirms Aero Performance GR Yaris for UK

The good news from GR continues - with a manual gearbox, too

We’re all too used to being disappointed by Japanese manufacturers when it comes to UK availability - not this time. Toyota GB has confirmed that the recently announced Aero Performance GR Yaris will be coming here; there won’t be very many, they will cost a lot of money (£48,995), but like your Mum always said about eating vegetables, something is better than nothing.

It isn’t some toned-down equivalent for our tastes, either. The GR Yaris Aero Performance that’s coming to the UK is exactly the same as the one revealed a few weeks back, complete with the adjustable rear spoiler, flat floor cover, smattering of ducts and more aggressive front end. It still looks mega, evoking the wild Japanese special editions of days gone by. A regular UK numberplate will look properly incongruous on a car seemingly straight from a Daikoku meet, and all the better for it.

Interestingly, too, the Aero Performance model will only be offered with the six-speed manual. With the standard GR supply having dried up, it’s unclear whether the eight-speed auto will return. That’s something for the future; perhaps various limited editions will follow as a way of sating demand (and making money) as the Yaris continues to evolve. For now, it’s also been confirmed that the Aero will also get a ‘racing-style vertical handbrake.’ In case it couldn’t sound any cooler. Contact your GR Centre pronto if you want one, though; Toyota says numbers ‘are strictly limited’, and deliveries are due in March.

Good news Toyota GR…!

Mind you, the price, should keep my Gen1 residual pretty healthy for a while…

Great that they're bringing it to the UK, not so great that it's basically £50k. Fun, affordable cars are dead in the UK it seems.

Just waiting for SDK to come along and tell us we aren't working hard enough and that we don't understand how inflation works...

I've called round the dealers, most seem to be getting a single car and dealer principle is having it

But ive found 2 dealers who are potentially willing to take an order against their allocation.

I'd be embarrassed to be seen driving around in that. Or even peering through the window.

it'll be foot down everywhere on that basis, a GT3 or GT3RS is no better from many respects.

But having watched them hooning around the rally stages last weekend I came to the conclusion that 48k is pretty good value for money.

I can think of more embarrassing cases at being seen peering through a window whistle

What I like about the original GR-Yaris is that it kind of fly's below the radar, at a glance it very much looks like the standard hybrid car...which is a very good thing.

This latest version shouts..."look at my wee rally car", I don't think I could run around with a car looking like that.

Its nice though.

Called round loads of GR centres to secure one today, most dealers plan to have them as cars for MD or to encourage a high margin px against.

However (im not connected to either, but both were helpful before a closer dealer offered their allocation)

Rebecca at Yeovil has an allocation available

Raf at Exeter has an allocation available

my worry is what this pricing means (potentially) for GR Corolla pricing

With assembly in Burnaston and without the 10% import tariff from Japan Toyota UK have the opportunity for the Corolla to be significantly cheaper than the Yaris. But..................... that would defy all normal pricing where bigger cars cost more than smaller cars and i suspect Toyota UK will price the Corolla at over £50k when they probably could turn a profit at £40k

But in the context that they can't afford to sell many because they have to meet CO2 average for their overall sales then i guess they are going to go for a massive per car profit margin. i think we need to all buy a couple of Aygo Hybrid's so Toyota UK can firstly justify selling the Corolla in the uk and then price it more reasonably
