Hello All,

I have returned from a road trip and found some mild scoring on one of the rear discs. My dealer are suggesting this requires replacement (at £8k for a pair). Does anyone have any views on similar damage and whether this damage would normally necessitate the replacement of the discs?

Thanks for any input.

are you sure its scored

can you feel it with your finger, i.e. that its a groove in the disc ?

to me, looks like just some crap that will clear if you go out and give it death

Would tend to agree. Looks like some crud on the disk. Run your finger over it, if its a groove its knackered, if its a sitting up and proud just murder the brakes a few times.

Surprised it's not 8k for just one!

Personally, I would be inclined to leave it for now and see how the brakes feel. I can't see it affecting the braking performance to any degree and wouldn't think it's an MOT failure if applicable to your car age wise.

Thanks for all the replies.

I have agreed with the dealer to run the car for a little while and see if the "damage" cleans up.

On the cost, the price was £8.2k including pads, so circa £6.5k for the pair of rotors. That's pretty comparable to Porsche pricing . . . which is quite surprising.

Thanks again.

Very surprising, genuinely would have expected closer to 10k for a single disc. The good ole Ferrari tax and all that.

I didn’t say they would? Perhaps I should have inserted the word ‘even’ somewhere.

Fingers crossed. I’m sure it’ll disappear with some hard use.

At a minimum, your mechanic should be removing the pads and inspecting the braking surface before sending you on your way. They might be OK, but there could also be debris or damage causing the scoring. Is it really worth risking the disc for about 15 mins of labour?
