Had a trip to the Recycling Centre to drop off some stuff and spotted in the paper bin a massive haul of old Motor Sport magazine. Must have easily been 10 years worth and all at the bottom of the bin so I couldn't haul any out. I don't know why but this saddened be a bit.
I loved a magazine. Still do. Most overseas trips I make I normally pick up a copy of Motor Sport or Classic Car or similar at the airport. In the loft I've got boxes of old Q magazines, Grand Prix International, Autosport, and random others - and yes, a few top shelf mags too but one with an excellent article about Nigel Mansell and the Lotus Esprit ;-) . Whenever I go up there to fetch a suitcase, I can often spend an hour flicking through them (and not just the latter ones!)
What was your magazine of choice?

A favourite was Cycle, a US magazine. CAR, the UK version, had some great writers including Setright.
Motorcycle Sport, this was the era of the dark pink top, regular riders used to write a couple of thousand words on what it was like daily riding their Rapide or Red Hunter.
Weird one. Before you had a appointments at the barbers you sat and waited your turn, often 30+ minutes. He used to keep a stack of Readers Digests, still remember It pays to increase your wordpower or Humour in Uniform,

Can't keep em all.
Had the first 9 or 10 years of Classic Car (latterly Thoroughbred & CC) all in binders. think I sold them for peanuts.
Used to get the likes of CCC, Hot Bra and Custard Car every month. Would tear out the pages that were of interest and filed them. Eventually binned all of that lot in the last house move. Would also buy Motoring News and in my early days (1970-80) Motor Sport.
Bought one magazine in the last few years (a special about Swedish cars), get all my info now from the internet.

Used to like Dirt magazine and MBUK both mountain bike magazines.
Evo magazine was always my favourite car mag. When it arrived I used to flick through for an overview of what was in there then read the long term test bits first before starting again at the beginning.
I still like an online review but its hammered at you daily now, there was always something nice about a magazine and taking the time to sit and have a read through.

I used to get loads of magazines back in the day, but now only get Land Rover Monthly and Hayburner, both on subscription. I get Motorsport occasionally, especially around Le Mans time. I do find it harder to find magazines in shops these days, not helped by people like me no longer buying them I guess. I can't remember the last time I saw an Autosport, whereas a few years ago, even our local Co-Op sold it.
Used to have a subscription to Top Gear magazine back in the mid 90s, they lured me in with a double CD of Top Gear driving tracks. I had them all snacked under my desk in issue order, one day I got bored and took the whole lot to the tip.
I used to buy two or three car magazines a month back then, Revs and Max Power plus the occasional other one, all long since thrown away.
I haven't bought a magazine for over 15 years now, when I go into WH Smiths it amazes me there are still so many magazines going.
I really wish I had all my old Zzap 64! magazines, I had years worth and when I got my Amiga just threw them all away. They are also worth a bit of money nowdays.

Back in my Karting days, I used to get Karting magazine and then also Kart and Superkart when that came out. After several house moves and lugging suitcases full of them from one place to another, I gave up and took them all to the tip. Now I see them being sold for a reasonable amount of money.
My collection of Custom Car, Car and Car Conversations suffered the same fate, but I haven’t seen anyone looking for them.

Edit, Classic American magazine tooIn the end they were taking up space in the loft so I scanned the bits I wanted to keep with a flat bed scanner and recycled the rest.
Yep , still gutted I chucked out all of my big 'uns monthy's when I got married.
Stupid decision, especially as i really could have done wirh them after getting married!
Also, after moving out, my mum chucked out all my old zzap64! Crash! mags, Eagle comics etc. Really wish I still had them!

I still have three volumes of Classic and Sports Car from the mid-80s, in their binders, and refer to them frequently. I don't suppose I'll ever get rid of them.
Did have a load of music magazines such as The Guitar Magazine and Total Guitar, but I did throw them away. Might have half a dozen or so hiding somewhere though. Same with my Aircraft Modeller and Aircraft Illustrated, think I've kept a few of those.
Must be years since I actually bought a magazine!

I subscribed to Auto Express for years before the days of smartphones - as it was fortnightly I got a fix of car news and always had something to read.
Latterly I subscribed to Practical Performance Car for a long time and had all issues from very early on, but it got thinner and thinner and I was getting all my project content online so I stopped getting it.
There was another performance car mag I got for a few issues but it didn't last long. Never really got into Evo or Octane.
They've all gone now apart from my PPCs which are in the loft.
As for non car mags I have a stack of computer ones from the late 80s until the early 90s - mostly Sinclair/Atari ST/Acorn mags. For some reason I saved them when my parents' house was cleared. I really should give them away if anybody wants them.
Used to be an avid reader of What Hifi too.

Motor & Autosport in the late 70s/early 80s. Chucked away loads of them (and about 500 Private Eyes) when we moved house a few years ago, keeping a select few.
Now only subscribe to Octane - gave up on C&SC three years ago but still have 25 years' worth boxed up for a good nostalgic read in retirement.
A lot of them these days seem to cost nearly as much as a paperback, but I guess that's indicative of covering costs with a smaller readership. See also postage stamps.
