Being unable to find brown trunking for my forthcoming a/c installation, I'll have to accept black.

Now I need to find the best way to make black trunking and the associated joining pieces look brown. I've considered vinyl wrap, but am not sure how well it would stick to PVC in all weathers and temperatures, or whether it would go round the connectors properly. So brown paint might be the simplest way forward.

Can anyone recommend a mid-brown paint, or spray, that will stick to shiny plastic properly without fading or peeling? Will I need to prepare the surface in any way first, eg a primer or keying with fine sandpaper?

Have a look on Zinsser’s site and their ‘How to guides’, their Allcoat would be a good call, you can get it tinted to RAL and BS colours if you’re looking to match existing fittings.

A few years back my next door nieghbour had 'oak effect' UPVC windows/doors installed.

He wanted a paint to match for his UPVC soffit boards and other bits and pieces, he went to B&Q with an offcut and they mixed him a litre.

It's still sticking to his soffits....and he borrowed my ladder to get to them!

hehe

We used to paint gutters and downspouts in donky brown, not sure of the BS number. We used exterior oil based gloss with no undercoat, this was on the Dulux spec. It was always solid after the return 5 year repaint cycle.
