Just received what looks like a legit email from AMEX. Full name, card number (last few digits) etc. Links look legit but obviously I did not click on them.

Went into the app and lo and behold the same questions asking me to verify my identity for money laundering etc. If I cancel the process it logs me out. So it appears I can't access my card details without completing it.

First question. D.O.B. Fair enough....

Second question. Upload a copy of either passport, national ID card or Driving license. WTF!

Anyone else got this? Are they crazy? Hacked? Or do I now have to hand over my soul to use their card?

Apparently so. A little digging suggests its not Amex but from the Govm't. So not even any use calling them off and flouncing off into the sunset! getmecoat

My wife got a similar email ( she is an additional card holder on my account ) and she logged onto the online account and basically just confirmed a couple of things and job done.
Certainly didn’t have to scan any driving licence in.

Exactly the same here alscar. Mrs Minglar is dreadful at doing this sort of stuff and she usually just chucks it all at me, but this time I told her she needs to do it even though I’m the primary account holder. She had received emails and letters about confirming her ID and when she finally bothered to log in to the app it was all sorted out in a few minutes. Just a case of ticking a couple of boxes and certainly no requirement to upload any copies of any official documents. smile

Never mind; when we have Digital IDs everything will go like clockwork. Not.

I am an AMEX cardholder and have received a similar e-mail. I complied (eventually - they gave me a deadline when my account would be stopped).

I had inwardly resolved to close the account if the need for scanning a passport etc. had been insisted upon.

In the event, answering a few questions, e.g., occupation, salary, was deemed sufficient.

Yep. Definitely asking for a picture of driving license. Now I have the fun of it not accepting the driving license number when I have to confirm it. Useless!

Shambolic bunch of useless fwits!

Tried to enter license number in app and on website and it wouldn't accept it. Phoned up Amex they said to email a photo of it to them. I said 'no', I need a more secure way. They said 'post it'. FFS.

Gave up with the idiot on the phone who had nothing more to offer until their back office tech team started work at 8. His solution was to wait a couple of hours and try it again as he had flagged it. Of course their programmers can sort out this in a few minutes!

Anyway, entered passport details on app and all worked with email confirmation from Amex.

Shower of st. Can't even get their systems to accept a UK license number.....mutter....mutter...grumble ....grumble.......and breathe....

Rather unproductive rant but anyway if anyone comes up against this. Just don't bother with your driving license
