I m in a bit of a quandary.

I ve agreed an allowance with my company for a company car of c£1,200 per month. 15k miles per annum and I want to avoid a massive tax impact via BIK.

I had my heart set on a LR defender commercial D350 as I have a dog and I m a keen cyclist with no need for rear seats. Clearly the LR is a bit off the page currently as an order backlog is highly likely.

Despite not needing rear seats my second choice was a macan 4S electric. Again massive queue.

So I m after ideas. 2 or 3 long journeys a week, need to hold a dog crate, would like to transport a bike, could use a rack, currently driving a Merc c43.

Anyone any ideas, £1,200 is on a business lease so is ex vat.

Edited to add i would like a bit of poke, hence the macan 4S not the 4.

Thank you.

Heard they are a bit sketchy in terms of reliability

I guess the other option is a 2nd hand LR defender bought on a business lease, does anyone know if that is possible?

No issues with the ones at work. There’s also a big update on the main page here.

The macan doesn’t warrant its price(imo)

Is the Defender classed as a commercial vehicle and can therefore swerve BIK in some way? If not, then Diesel is the last option you want if you’re after low BIK.

What about the new iX3?

Might be a bit low rent but how about a ID BUZZ GTX? I think you can take the back seats out when you don t need them?

BMW I5 tourer?

A6 etron?

Q6 etron? These seem to have a less sloped roof than the new macan so more room

Mercedes Benz EQS SUV?

Lotus Eletre SUV?

Volvo EX90

BMW ix

KIA EV9 or the hyandi big SUV

Wait for the new cayenne?

Top Gear’s long term buzz (which might be a different, newer spec) struggled to do 200 motorway miles on a full charge, 80 odd kWH battery I think it was. It seems unacceptable that it can’t do 200 miles in summer!

New A6 etron available on good value lease deals, decent range and sub 5s 0-60, easy to fit a bike in the Avant. Way below your budget limit.

New ix3 won't be on your drive for 6-12 months so probably out of the picture.

How do I go about getting a job there?? biglaugh V jealous.

I’d assume your fuel is covered as well in which case, my pick would definitely be an M5 touring, low bik due to it being a hybrid.

Other more sensible options I’d look at are:
XC90/EX90
X5

Thanks. Some interesting options.

LR commercial is a van as no rear seats.

Not sure the M5 touring would come in budget at 15k miles on a lease deal.

As a side note, especially if you have your heart set on something, it could be worth ringing round a few main dealers to see what stock they have.

The company I work for use Zenith, who quoted and placed an order for my i4. The delivery date was circa 6 months away.

Once they’d placed the order I got talking with the main dealer and found out they had access to plenty of i4s that were sat in a port, just in a different colour. It’s now due for delivery next week.

Worth noting I couldn’t see this specific car “in stock” when looking on either the BMW website or the dealers website.

That’s a fair point. I’m not in a massive rush but would like to sort something out.

"only" 3.0 TD though it's in stock.

Sadly the 116kWh G-Wagen isn't in budget.

That’s not a bad shout to be honest. I looked at one of those before when I intended to get a LR 4 years ago and the waiting list was about a year.

I’ve got a 45e for the same reasons. Very wafty but very quiet, comfy and fairly quick, loads of space with the seats down.
Only downsides of the newer 50e generation are more stupider touch screens for heating etc, plus they’re all a ridiculous 2.5 tonnes iirc.

I guess it comes back to defining what the OP means by low BIK - PHEVs are ramping up quite quickly in tax already - that X5 50e with no options for 40% tax payer is already £246 tax per month, rising to just over £300 per month in '27/'28 and £520 per month by '29/'30.
