Hello all,

I'm looking to buy a 2018ish Vauxhall Insignia with the 1.5 turbo petrol engine. Does anyone have any experience of running one? Any particular pitfalls with this engine? An internet search didn't turn up much.

Thanks in advance.

hi, i have one as a work/station/airport car. It is without fault. In that is is utterly characterless, needs revving tha nuts off it to get anywhere. Not sure if I had the choice I`d go for it again over a Mondeo. If it`s markedly cheaper then yea I spose. Weirdly we were given it, it`s a 2019 SRi.

Servicing is cheap, it`s good on fuel.

The 1.5 is okay if you can find a 1.6T the extra torque & power make it more effortless & it's about the same on fuel real world vs the 1.5t:

Bit out of my budget, unfortunately (£7000ish) but thank you for posting a couple of links. Much appreciated. smile

Not to be one of 'those' posters - or appear impatient, because I'm not in the slightest - but just to say I sent you a PM. No rush to reply, just wanted to check you received it. smile

I had one of these as a hire car and I was quite taken with it. Was certainly comfortable enough and room for two kids and holiday gear in the back.

I quite liked the engine, but as mentioned you have to rev it up to get going but on a run it's quite economical, round town it's a fairly big car to pull around. I think the last era of Insignia was a good looking car though. My half's dad has a silver one and it's smart.

I get the feeling from that 1.5 engine a remap would do it a world of good! I assume the one I hired was the 138bhp model but even that apparently maps to 180bhp, which would be loads better.

Thanks for your thoughts. This would be pretty much exclusively for dual carriageway and motorway driving so I'm not too worried about fuel economy.

I have my eye on one with the 163bhp engine, which should be fine for what I need.

A friend has one with the same engine. It seems to go well enough power wise and he says he gets 44mpg, which I think is pretty good for the size of car.

I've asked a local garage to see if they can source one as any I like the look of are quite far away from me so we'll see what happens.

Thank you to all for your contributions. smile
