I have a 2009 Merc E350 coupe and want to upgrade the stereo to incorporate Apple CarPlay. I have a kit but do not have. Radio code for the existing stereo. I recently bought the car and, over the years, and three previous owners, the code has been lost/ mislaid. I’ve tried Mercedes but they do not have a code logged on their systems and I’ve also tried a couple of online companies “That can retrieve your code - no problem” but they too have been unable to supply a code.

So, my questions are;

A) Does anyone know where else I may be able to get the code or, a master code if such a thing exists or,

B) Is the stereo unit coded to the vehicle and will it automatically recode itself, as my old Mk 4 used to do

Any, and ll device will be greatfully received.

Cheers

If you have the serial number speak to fast radio codes and they should be able to work it out for you. They are not coded to the vehicle

Odd, Is it a Becker or an Alpine unit?

Locate the radio serial number if the code isn t in the paperwork you ll need the serial number on the radio itself. That normally means removing the head unit to read the sticker on the back/top (the serial looks like a long alpha-numeric string). Many guides and services insist on this serial to look up the code.

Give serial + proof of ownership to Mercedes with the radio serial (or sometimes the VIN + radio serial) an authorised Mercedes dealer or Mercedes Customer Assistance can look up the code. If one dealer says they have no record, try another dealer or ask them to check the radio serial, not just VIN-only lookups. Forums and technical guides repeatedly show the serial is what matters.

In the good ol’ days, you could put a Phillips radio in the fridge for a few hours and it would forget it needed a code.

Alternatively if you left a removable radio in your car in parts of Leeds, within 60 mins it would completely vanish!

If you cant find the
serial number
Part Number
Build date :beware may be written MM/DD/YYYY

On the back or side of the actual unit then try putting the wrong code in 3 times and the date might appear on the radio screen for you.

Phone a proper dealer and they should be able to get the radio code for you from that data from the MB systems. Possibly a charge for it depending on the dealership.
The other option would be for the dealer to hook a workshop computer to it and it will be able tk be unlocked that way.
It will cost you about 1 hour dignostics if that is the case though which could be anywhere up to £200

I recently bought a car whereby the previous owner had lost the code to the stereo (I think the stereo had never been used since the car was purchased in 2006). Anyway.

This guy fixed it in 30 minutes:-
