So we have 2 cats, siblings and nearly 3 years old. Both are house trained but one is a hunter and the other could't care less.

The hunter has been out of sorts for the last few days we have assumed he's probably killed/eaten something that he hasn't agreed with. He's been hiding away under the sofa, bed etc etc and generally just wants to be left alone.

Friday night we were both asleep but both woke up to a disgusting smell and he'd $%^$ on the bedroom floor!!! Next day Saturday we watched him $£&^ on the lounge floor and then scarper. Yesterday he miraculously seemed back to normal wanted affection, eating normally and sitting by you, happy days we thought whatever was wrong with him he is over.

Today I'm working from home and I can hear him upstairs plucking on the carpet, I go up to stop him doing it and yup, big sticking *&$% on the bedroom floor again, but he's well...

Any ideas on why he is doing this and more importantly how can we stop it.

Do you think he might have been attacked/bitten by another cat? That can certainly put them off going outside for a while. And might explain the hiding away behaviour too.

If he is a hunter could well be a tapeworm.

Vet should prescribe some extra strong wormer, stronger than the usual monthly flea and worm

I don't know the answer but would putting a litter tray down help get the poo in a better place?

If he's still not right soon perhaps a trip to the vet might be in order.

Had the litter tray down just in case, but he ignored it and went for the carpet.... grrr!!

Been to vets this morning, inconclusive really. No signs of fighting/bites, slight temperature so prescribed the usual metacam, seems to fix everything that stuff.

Fingers crossed it will do the trick.

Let's hope so.

In the short term, if that cat hasn't used a litter tray before, you could try picking it up and plonking it in so it might get an idea of purpose... sprinkle in some soil so it smells more like the toilet it used before.

I did the opposite with my cat which had always been a house cat until I adopted her. I raked up a spare bit of flowerbed and sprinkled litter on. After a coupe of days she'd figured out where to go smile

He was a kitten when we got him and fully house trained to there's never been any issues. Had to keep him in for around 6 weeks when we first got him so no issues using a litter tray.

We've closed all of the doors upstairs now to prevent him getting into any of the rooms and moved his bed etc back into the utility where his food is, so far he's been fine. Just completely out of character the last few days.

I think I would take him to the vet, he may have a bug or an injury. But most likely is a new cat in his territory. Be worth trying a Feliway plug in

See yesterday's post.

New neighbours a few weeks ago with a lab puppy which is the only visible change, but our other cat is unaffected.
