Fantastic news! I'm so happy for them. It must be awful losing a member of such a close knit band like Rush. Same situation with Queen and Led Zeppelin. I think they've done the right thing by having a period of mourning and readjustment and now getting back out there. Their fans will be overjoyed to see them playing live again. I've always been a fan but for various reasons never got around to seeing them in concert. No European dates announced yet but fingers crossed.
I had the idea that their self imposed retirement wouldn't last long.
I have reservations about 3 and 4 piece bands continuing on without a long standing and integral member, ZZ Top is another one, The Who without Moon and especially Entwistle is a shadow of the powerhouse from the early 70s. However the draw of the limelight and the adulation must be difficult to ignore, not forgetting the large financial reward.

Not sure how I feel about this. The Professor is irreplaceable, and I really would be disappointed if their legacy was tarnished because of these dates. However, Geddy and Alex must have thought long and hard about this and found someone who they feel is technically capable of filling the stool and maybe adding something to the sound, and after all they are musicians who enjoyed performing live and respected their fans, so I've registered for the LA dates being the nearest to me in Sydney! Funny thing is, I've just spent the past 3-4 days going through some of their 80s albums, and then this news pops up.
Just watched the discussion/announcement at the RnR Hall of Fame event and Geddy and Alex's separate announcement video.....it was actually quite emotional. I think they are totally going to get this right. No hyperbole, just Canadian style reserved "yeah, we are going to do this. We still enjoy playing together". I think they will be playing along with Neil somehow on something like YYZ or La Villa Strangiato
Hopefully they will try and do some UK and Euro dates if all goes well. Not much chance of them coming to Australia, so I'll have to travel as I did for the previous 2-3 UK tours.
