Getting CarPlay into the pre 22 cars
Discussion
OK so this is the number one thing I get asked about when we are selling the Alpines and I think it would be good to have an option to offer people to upgrade as it seems very important to people to have Car play. I myself don't even use it in the cars I have it in so I just don't get it myself but hey ho! People are surprised that it was only 2022 when they introduced it.
I have reached out to Accutek in Winchester who put the iLX905D Alpine unit into an A110 and it looks perfect. It's probably a worthwhile upgrade in the post 22 cars as well really as the head unit in all of the Alpines is just so shockingly bad.
Are there any other options? Has anyone else actually done a head unit upgrade? I dont have telemetry on my own Alpine either so running an ODB app is a cool option to tie in at the same time as well.

I have a '21 model with telemetrics. I had wondered about upgrading it but there's a huge cost of change to basically just get CarPlay as the rest of the car is perfect and the newer models are fundamentally the same. I'm one of those quite happy with google maps on the phone and bluetooth the Audio, which works fine, but I am curious about the options to upgrade infotainment.
I've heard that it's very difficult but that it has been done but never seen any images or anything else about the outcome. I'd be curious to see an Accutek install of this unit for both fit and functionality into an A110. Maybe someone can post some detail on here - images, complexity, functionality etc.
It's way way cheaper than changing the car for the only tangible upgrade between the pre- and post- 22 models.

Great, thanks. I'm not on Facebook so don't see this sort of stuff. Really interesting, thanks. How is it mounted? Does it replace the OEM screen and sit on OEM mounts or does it sit in front?
Shame about the telemetrics though - I do tend to use mine relatively often to watch the oil and water temps while the car isn't in sports mode - using it at a screen of gauges in effect.

The Alpine media Carplay / Android Auto unit looks nice, compliments!
If there's ever an aftermarket unit with the exact same (smaller) dimensions as the OEM unit and which keeps the Telemetrics app (and a lower price!) then I could be tempted.
Even for the post-22 cars with the upgraded CarPlay functionality etc, the infotainment system is not that great TBH. Certainly not a reason for part-exchanging an older car. All media units and software for current A110 models are doomed to be out of date within 2 years (if not already) - unless there's a commitment by Alpine to provide continuing upgrade support...which I doubt is the case.
Certainly will monitor what the A110 independent specialists are recommending in the years ahead.

If my Alpine was used as a daily car, I would invest in the solution mentioned above. But as the Alpine is a second car/weekend toy/fun machine, I'll just find a decent phone mount for my Android phone and use Google maps from that and Bluetooth my Spotify.
Thats what I do and it works fine. While it would be easier to have it on the bigger screen, using the phone means you're not missing anything really. In my view it's not a problem that needs a multiple £'000 solution, either a bespoke install or paying more for a post '22 model. Meonstoke said:

I’m pretty fussy about my infotainment, and I think the post-22 system with focal upgrade including sub is really rather good.
