Looking to get a vChrgd point installed as they are cheap and I can pair my car with IOG so don't have that worry.
There's 2 options for the vChrgd and the tether cable says its 5m as there's no additional cost.

Would people recommend a tethered cable with this charger? Car is going to be parked further away than the standard length cable that came with the car so I'm going to need a longer cable anyway.

It’s so much handier just to plug it in rather than fart about with a cable in the boot that’s often wet when it comes to stowing it.

And other than Ohme, you can replace the tethered flex if it gets damaged (unlikely in domestic scenario).

There's another thread asking a similar question.

You don't need to keep the cable in the boot, just leave it plugged in to the charger unit. Then you have a tethered charger with a cable of the length of your choosing!

If it's publicly accessible then make sure it can be electronically locked i suppose.

He is getting them for the same price, that would be cost plus.

If he's not getting any benefit for the extra money then he won't do it. Decisions aren't purely based on cost. If he needs 9 meters (for example) then it's better to spend a few quid more. Cables aren't expensive by any stretch.

Tethered or not is the same price. Issue is tethered is only up to 5m which would be a snug fit and probably get in the way. Unless I can get the charger fit in a different location. That could be an issue due to location of the gas boiler.

Worst case I just swap the cars around each day making my access to the charger better. Again though that's a faff but I guess I'll be the one doing that not the Mrs.

Charger would be locked by the app or the nfc card.

Look on Amazon and price up the length of cable you'd like. If you don't want to pay that money for the optionality or convenience of the longer cable then get the tethered charge point and live with a 5m cable.

My Hive charger is untethered and it is installed inside the garage next to the consumer unit / fuse box. The long charging cable which can reach 2 cars parked outside the garage is trailed under the roller garage door. I made a channel so that the sensor on the bottom of the door did not trigger. As it is untethered everything can be disconnected.

I've decided to go with tethered just because i know I'll end up forgetting to pack the other cable away.

Ideally if the guys can fit the charger on the other side of the door then there's zero issues. Only thing that might stop them is that the gas box is there and the boiler is behind the wall for the kitchen. So potentially issues but I have no idea.

Failing all that, I'll just park my car on that side of the driveway and argue with Mrs. Can't wait for the 30 days of punishment for that.

What do you do if you are going away and find the destination charger requires you to provide the cable? Your cable is at home.

In 4 years and 60k miles we have only used a public charger 15 or so times and they have tethered cables. If we are doing a long trip and staying somewhere with a charger I pack the cable, but that is once in a blue moon.

There's a cable that comes with the car that lives in the car, and a long cable that is permanently plugged into the charge point at home.

Others appear to make life quite complicated on here! biggrin

i have a holder i plug the cable into when not in use, if i want to swap the short 2m cable for a 10m cable or if it gets damaged no problem
