I have hunted through the postings to see if I can pick some information up on sports exhausts, but can find any, so I'm after advice.

Q1) Sports Exhausts Y/N
Q2) Advantages/ Disadvantages (performance noise etc)
Q3) Dealer locations and costs. I live in Essex.
Q4) Do they effect the running of the car, back pressure etc and engine management etc.

I remember some time ago if you fitted a sports exhaust to the Astra SRI if actually decreased the BHP and torque, but allowed for better performance when up rating the engine at a later date

Anyone on this forum have them fitted??

Cheers

TRy looking through the S series, Griff and Engine threads. This topic has been done to death.

There is also a noise FAQ on my website.

This was debated heavily a few months ago, under heading "factory says no to sports exhausts" on the chimaera forum.
You'll get a head ache reading it though !!!
Basically 2 options
1/ cheap cut silencer open replace perforated tubes with solid, many do this ( i don't)
2/ buy a sports system ( smaller silencer)
JP are about the best, they have double skin silencers and are the best quality i've seen. avaiable standard, sports & super sports.
Available from: ACT , Peninsula, Tower view, Joospeed,
Zertec do something as well .
Benefits = better noise & looks shiney. Down side= you need extra mufflers to attend curcuits.
No change in performance despite the reference to "sports"

Had a straight-through fitted to my 4L Chim. At first sounded bit like a garbage truck unloading and I lost a small amount of torque. Then had ACT induction kit fitted + fast road cam + tornado chip--now sounds brilliant--don't let the dealer sharks do it for you--it's an easy job any competent engineering firm can do. If you have a 5L probably best to go for 50% straight through if you don't want to be arrested.
