DB9 immobiliser issue?
Discussion
Hi Folks,
Hoping someone might have a suggestion as to a problem I have on my 2014 DB9. I drive the car 2 or 3 times a week but when I got in today, it would not start. All dashboard lights displayed as normal but starter motor not engaging. No solenoid activation and no sounds at all. Nothing.
The clue I think is that the red light in the upper left of the display remained steadily lit which I believe indicates that the immobiliser is still on. First thought was that maybe it was not recognising the key so tried the spare and exactly the same.
Not sure if there's anything else I can check before calling someone out. The irony is that the Timeless warranty literally just expired and I thought nah, I don't need to renew that, it's been faultless for a year :-(
Any thoughts?
Cheers in advance.

I don't know the answer to this but does the AML immobiliser stop it cranking or stop it firing?
If any other PH'er knows then it could help you diagnose a little more, because if the immobiliser normally allows crank but stops it firing, that would indicate your problem may not be the immobiliser.

There is a transmitter/receiver thingy in the roundel you put the key into. That can fail and lead to the issue you describe. I dont think its a cheap fix so fingers crossed its not that. Have you checked the battery is good?
Battery is fairly new and always on a tender when in the garage so confident that's not a factor.LTP said:

That's a very good question to which I don't know the answer either...If any other PH'er knows then it could help you diagnose a little more, because if the immobiliser normally allows crank but stops it firing, that would indicate your problem may not be the immobiliser.

Could be an issue with the brake pedal switch. Try pushing really hard on the brake when trying to start it.
That's something I hadn't thought of. Just been out now, made sure I was pushing heavily on the brake pedal before inserting the key and it all fired up perfectly. Perhaps the switch is dodgy and it's nothing to do with the immobiliser. At least I have something to go on now, thanks...

Nice little nugget of info tucked away for future... Thank you.

Maybe not quite the nugget you envisaged...........If I remember correctly it is the DB7 that you have to press the brake pedal during the starting procedure.

Manuel DB9s the clutch pedal has to be depressed. On starting my auto DB9 this morning I deliberately did not depress the foot brake as I have done in the past (I thought you had to) and the engine fired up ok. Brake pedal has to be depressed for gear selection. Happy to be enlightened if later models differ.
