My Mk7 golf (owned from new) was being serviced 2 weeks ago and the VW main dealer submitted a warranty claim to VW for rust on my car - there are a few spots of surface rust in the typical places on a golf ( sills and front / rear quarter panels).

I’d heard nothing so followed up today and the dealer advised that VW rejected the claim but they do not receive any advice or reason why.

I was told my only route is to contact VW customer service to ask them to provide feedback.

Seems pretty poor to me but does any one know if this is normal behaviour for VW UK?
And am I wasting my time even making a phone call to try and find out why the claim was rejected ?

Thanks

I was under the impression that most manufacturers only paid out on rust claims if there had been actual perforation of a panel and excluding previous repairs to said panel but I might be wrong.

If the rust has appeared in the middle of a panel and the paint is original and undamaged then in my view that would qualify but anything else is an uphill struggle.

I think the critical bit is the paint is original and no damage plus the earlier it is reported the better.

It is worth a conversation with the warranty manager at the dealer as they will know more, don't bother with a service advisor, straight to the warranty manager.

Isn’t the paint warranty only 3 yrs?

There’s also a perforation warranty, but it has to be for rust from inside out.

Saying things like “paint” and “surface corrosion” are probably the wrong things to say.
