I am fiddling with the boot catch on the car and I am not sure what the electrical connections are. It looks like they are switched depending on whether the catch is closed or open, but what do they do? I can only guess they are for the burglar alarm, maybe stopping it setting if the boot is not closed? Can someone tell me? I am half thinking I could use them for a boot light. Thanks.

You mean the boot solenoid? The original fitment is a 2-wire which just fires from the switch under the dash when the ignition is on. Sounds like you might have a 5-wire (which are used for the door release) but 3 of the wires will be redundant for the boot release.

A picture would help, as above really, I don`t think there is any link to the alarm etc.

Just sounds like the boot solenoid if it’s the original set up.
Some folk have had a boot opening system fitted that’s operated by a key fob, and whilst I haven’t seen how these are done, I suspect the electronics would be fitted in the cabin to work in conjunction with the button on the dashboard.

The remote release for mine is powered from the loom behind the passenger seat and intercepts the release trigger wire in the same place. The unit itself sits on top of the rear wheel arch near the fuel filler.

Apologies - I knew I should have posted a photo but I didn't have one. I now have.

The mystery wires are not to do with the solenoid opening mechanism, they are on the blue connector in this photo. Thanks David

Blimey, never seen one like that. What year is the car?

Dave, peel the carpet back so we can see the wiring, unless someone has been there before you it just held in by the rubber seal and sparingly used carpet adhesive on the fibre glass body

It looks as though it may be a microswitch that indicates that the boot is closed maybe a feature on later cars?

That does look exactly like the thing on my lock Adrian. However my car doesn't have a boot light, in fact last weekend I fitted one using a reed switch on the hinge. That's why I was wondering about the lock wiring in the first place. So maybe I can revert to the OEM switch which I assume is only linking to the alarm at the moment.
If only the carpet wasn't all glued down so well!
Thanks for all the interest.

Late Chimaera and after, have the Ford latch (V97FB C43102) the Tamora has a lamp under the latch, in a moulding. Note that the plastic is brittle and breaking the cable runners and blue switch is common.

I put a new one in our Tamora (I found a NOS one), a 100% better set up that the earlier latch. A@

I just finished adding a push button switch for the boot. I replaced the 2 mounting screws for the rear plate with water proof rubber switches. The right switch goes to the 2 wire release solenoid. The other switch is dead...just to match the one on the right. Since I relocated the battery to the boot, it was an easy set up.

I had mine modified with newer alarm , so I have 3 (normal) ways of opening the boot

1) Button under dash ... (when car unarmed ignition ON )

2) Button under lip of boot (when car unarmed ignition ON)

3) 2nd button on key fob (with car unarmed and ignition OFF)
