I’m not talking about those people who either work or run a business remotely, (although people may have their own opinion of this) using their own/hotel/business centre, internet connection; fair play to them, I would do the same in their position.

I’m talking about the wannabe ‘digital nomads’ who clog up dinning establishments in parts of the world, where the staff are too polite/embarrassed, to tell them to ‘sod off’

They take up space, nursing the likes of a single ‘pumpkin spice latte’ While uploading/live streaming/using bandwidth, to post their inane, self aggrandizing, vacuous, gibberish.

These nice ‘alternative lifestyle content creators’, knowingly abuse the goodwill of the proprietors, safe in the knowledge that ‘their’ hosts culture, does not like confrontation.

Many of these enterprises, become a victim of their own success, by providing a nice relaxing environment with decent food and beverages, they quickly fill up with so called ‘digital nomads’.

This has become far more prevalent as the technology has become increasingly portable. I’ve recently seen customers set up a mobile phone stand, lighting rig and separate microphone; live streaming from a restaurant/cafe.

This is intrusive on several levels, noise, lighting and the possibly being an unwilling participant in their production. Intervene and ask them to refrain “I’m just creating content man” the business owner, is then placed in a difficult position.

I’m not against people using their electronic devices, provided it doesn’t impact on my experience.

“If you don’t mind waiting Sir, we’ll seat you both shortly.”

What’s your view on the subject?

There was one at a bar in Madeira last week.

Really nice bar, nice and peaceful (normally) overlooking the sea and there was a 'content creator' being loud and self important and 'oh isn't my life wonderful'

The waitress had very politely asked him to keep the noise down but he just arrogantly waved her away.

I'd had enough of his obnoxious behaviour by this stage. Walked up to his table. Shut his laptop and said 'F off now or this laptop goes over that wall straight into the Atlantic'

He f'd off.

Cannot STAND them. And his attitude to the waitress was just disgusting.

Can't say they're all that different to table hoggers in cafes (usually "ladies who lunch" types), sitting there, yakking away for ages after finishing their food and drinks while people who want to eat have to stand around waiting for a table to come free.

Possibly it’s not such a big issue in the UK, here in Asia, especially locations renowned for their natural beauty and laid back vibe, it’s becoming a problem.

I have no gripe with people doing work (I guess that’s hypocritical) one could argue influencers are doing work.

However, it’s the people using an establishment to create/livestream content, their not moving until they’re done; your space is their space.

These tasks can be done from a hotel room, oh but they wouldn’t have the laid back vibe as a backdrop.

I'd sit as close as possible to them and have a prolonged sneezing or coughing attack. I could probably make it last 20 minutes at least.

It’s on the proprietors to tell them to fk off, not others.

I'll tell you what annoys me even more - that's people who create 2 threads, with different titles, in different sub-forums but with EXACTLY the same content in their first post.

Lots of threads could be placed in more than one sub-forum, but most normal people just pick one and go with that. Posting the same thing twice in different sub-forums but different titles and essentially identical content (maybe not identical in words but identical in tone and meaning) makes you look a little bit needy.

If you think it makes me “look a bit needy” that’s your opinion, which you’re entitled a view on.

Possibly in future, I should wait a month or two before posting similar content in other threads, so I don’t upset your sensitivities.

But then again ...........

Not if the proprietors do nothing.

We had a couple in our local with a very loud whining dog - like very screeching loud whining - loud enough you flinched every time and had to stop conversing - the couble ignored it. We were all grimacing and the bar lady refused to say anything - "but we are a dog friendly pub", she said. Yes, but it's the humans that pay you.....

In the end several of us , equally loudly, said, "take that bloody dog outside!".

Someone had to do something, and it wasn't going to be the "trying to please everyone at the same time bar staff".

As for the digi nomads - its huge in Thailand now as they've been issuing long term visas for them for a few years.

I saw something recently where a bar was offering unlimited hot drinks, access to good WiFi and sockets for £20 a day.

I guess as a way to stop these people taking the absolute piss when ordering a cup of tea.

You can buy recording jammers, would be quite useful in situations like the above when you want peace and quiet.

Another alternative is to play copyrighted Disney music, the stream will be demonitised due to automated copyright strikes.

I've witnessed this happen before, five minutes into the stream the cafe owner turned off the router.

By far the best option when WiFi isn't one of the business' paid for services as it's just a minor inconvenience to customers actually there for the coffee/beer/whatever if the WiFi isn't working and only a problem for the table hogging WiFi leeches. And rather than facing a staff/customer confrontation experience means everyone will just accept the member of staff saying "Bloody broadband, huh? Always going down when you need it, isn't it!" and "Sorry, it's in the office and only the manager has the key so we can't restart it. It might come back shortly though, can I get you another coffee/etc while you wait?...".

This is the route cause as to why the OP is encountering so many where they are, multiple countries across SE Asia are now offering extended digital nomad visa's.

From what I understand they are very easy to obtain.
