I am not in my sixth week waiting for a tax book for my 1969 South African VW Beetle. I've sent everything in to them with a cheque for £55 and a certificate of build from VW. I've insured it on the chassis number etc. Is it normally usual to wait so long for a tax book?

I gues you are referring to the V55? Three of us imported cars from DA and arrived in the same container. We sent our documentation off on the same day.

One took a week and had V55 back, second took 2 weeks, mine took 3. Seems random.

A few years ago now but when I imported a motorbike and sent the relevant documentation/payment to DVLA, they issued a V5, updated (from frame no. to no. plate) MOT certificate etc. in around a week.

I was actually impressed how quickly they did it so, I wonder if yours has got lost in the system somewhere?

I know it's seems random. Can I ring them to chase up or will end up spending 3 hours going around the DVLA ? Has anyone a number?

Thanks for the number - very interesting. They have no record of ever have received the application! Franically trying to find my registered post certificate! Haven't the will - or time to start again.

That is worrying...
I sent an application a couple of weeks ago - also used registered post so I know it arrived...
They insist on having the original (overseas) registration document along with the V55 - in my case I didn't have one, so I'm relying on a dating certificate. It would be annoying to lose an original if you did have it!

Hope you get it sorted.
