What's The Used Market Like At This Time Of Year
Discussion
At this time of year, the market is pretty dead.
Sharks like me will happily make you a silly offer, secure in the knowledge that if you do take it and the bike turns out to be a bit s
t we can still sell it on again for a profit next spring.
Stick it in the garage, pull it out again here and there, to tidy it up and fix any little issues and then you will sell it for top dollar next year.

Thing is, there is no guarantee prices will be higher in the spring.
The OP's bike will be a year older then. It will have sat around gathering dust, maybe a little corrosion, definitely moving towards another expensive time-based service. New models will be around.
The way the economy is going, I don't think people will be more affluent in the spring.

webuyanybike offered me a price that translated as "f
k off". Another one was more polite and said "we're not looking for that sort of bike currently"
So either dealers aren't buying stock at auctions, I'm about to take a big bath when I sell it, or a £3k bike only works as a private sale now, not trade.

Haha, that's what they said when I plugged in the details of my Tiger Sport. With a whisker under 80k on the clock, I don't think it's the sort of thing any dealer will want.

Luckily, it still suits me just fine, and with it's value close to zero in commercial terms I'll probably keep it forever.
There are currently 285 Street Triple 675s of various flavours for sale on Bike Trader in the UK, so I would say it is a buyer's market, absolutely spoilt for choice if you want one!
They aren't really the kind of bike that many people want to buy and ride through winter though, are they?
I know there will be an Iron Butt out there who is still doing 1k miles a week on one throughout January but in the main they are a summer plaything.

Christ...it seems all doom and gloom.
Its a 2011 and I've owned it since new 8k miles black with gold wheels, what it does have going for it is its minted it looks like new, I'd go as far as say you won't find a nicer one...but someone need to want it which is the hard bit.
I've been having a look at the prices, they are all over the shop dealers wanting over £4k and I've seen some as low as £2500...the dilemma is where to price it.
Anyway thank's for all the replies...

So, it's a 14 year old bike.
A dealer will want good money for one, because with the Consumer Rights Act, there's an implicit 6 month warranty.
It seems to me reasonable that privately it's worth a chunk less.
I was in the same position with my bike a few years ago, I decided it was hardly worth selling, so I kept it. It's not depreciating any more, it is back up transport, it's cheap to insure, only negative is paying tax every year for not many miles. I've had a few good rides on it since, so I don't regret it.

I've got a good last of the Gen 5 VFR's for sale, only 29k miles... done a lot of work on it, just MOT'd and up for a good price (that'll I'll lose money on) and I've not had 1 bite..
Up on various FB groups and Marketplace.
Even "webuyanybike" type places haven't emailed me back...
You're not that far away from me and I've actually looked at the ad before. Up on various FB groups and Marketplace.

If it was a Gen 6 I think we would have met already

I've just sold my Gen 6 VFR - Immaculate (in red) 9.5k miles, clean in all areas (even with original dealer plate on it), I was surprised how little response I got. Had it up for £3.6k, dropped to £3.4k and took £3250.Only had one chancer come to look at it initially and wanted £600 off, told him no, couple of silly offers £1k off without seeing it, and trying to justify the price drop. Bike was v.vgood. Had it advertised from end of July for just over 2 months. Was very surprised, last chap was over the moon and took it away same day. Said he discounted it initially due to the low milage for a bike that was almost 20 years old, condition looked like only 5 years old. Made me realise when I buy again, the market is a buyers market and not sellers.
jj
Toying with the idea of buying something for next year, thought I'd have a look at the 675s on Autotrader.
60 within 100 miles of me but only 3 private sales. Surprising.
And private sellers don't do themselves any favours when the headline pic is a front three-quarters shot. Make it a side-on for crying out loud.

Pretty bad. I've seen quite a few of all descriptions massively cut in price as they're not selling.
Seems some of the covid pricing lunacy has subsided finally.
This IMHO, the budget will probably cause another downward shock too. Lots of auction bikes not even meeting reserves or selling for very fair money unless really desirable, those bikes seem to be maintaining a half decent price still.Seems some of the covid pricing lunacy has subsided finally.
Deffo a buyers market, but a lot of owners would probably rather hang on than take the hit, unless they have to. Those who paid a high premium for desirable bikes can probably just sit on them but will they hit those highs again, who knows?! It's a dwindling market.
