Hi there,

I'm thinking about changing my 330ci for a newer one and have some questions:

I'm sure that the latest BMW 3 litre engines produced 258bhp, andI know my 2000 model 330ci is only 231bhp. Can anyway tell me if I'm right, and when this change occured? Parkers don't list the change, and my local BMW dealer say that there was a change, but couldn't tell me when it was.

Can anyone also tell me when revisions to the fabled fly-by-wire throttle were made? My local BMW dealer recognise the problem on earlier E46 cars like mine and said "maybe this problem was addressed in 2003" - there were some revisions listed in Parkers for 2003, but was this one of them for certain?

thanks.

All E46 330i's are 231 bhp.
The new aluminium engine is only in the new 5 and new 3 as far as I know.

That'll make it fun putting out an engine fire.

Thanks for the information. Seems like the salesman was wrong then! I'm not surprised, as he couldn't tell me if LSDs were fitted either!

Are you sure because stats are quicker for 2001 or earlier for the 330, than post 2001

Only if the block's been reduced to powder already, in which case you may as well stand back and enjoy the show.
