So taking the knee is back in football
Discussion
Because of the increase of racism especially online abuse in the premiership, they are returning to taking the knee, I just can’t help this is stirring up matters even more.

Kaepernick's protest was timely, respectful, powerful and only subtly subversive.
People argue about whether it was justified at the time. I thought it was, but once protests like this start, what are the criteria for stopping?
It was, and meaningful in the US where the national anthem is played, the flag saluted etc prior to a sports game. We dont do that here, so it just seems a bit vacuous. It's ridiculous, especially when half of the players in the Premier League are black. As if a racist sees a bunch of footballers kneeling down before a match and thinks, "You know what, being a racist is bad and now I know better I love black and brown people".
If I was a player I'd refuse to do it, then probably be classed as a massive racist. Clownworld.

Its yet more virtue signalling that's suddenly back in fashion again for some reason. A bit like the rainbow armband and corner flag was for a while until more athletes started refusing to do it and then suddenly the "progressive movement" went quiet when they realised public opinion wasn't on their side

Tbh I doubt racists would ever make that connection. if you weren't as thick as pigs
My guess is that it highlights to the majority of fans what an issue racism still is in the hope that raising awareness hopefully reduces it.
On a more general note i'm not sure why this causes so much frothing on PH. there are lots of issues that some people feel strongly about where i don't care - its quite easy to ignore.

Id be more inclined to say that if the government made such a stance highlighting racism at Palestinian flag waving protests, they would make a bigger dent in their figures than at Bournemouth vs Liverpool matches

Because "taking the knee" is not a generic stance against racism, but supporting a cause, in BLM, that has far more than that going on in its ideological goals. Also many of those involved have turned out to be grifters. Not claiming to speak for everyone but that is the reason for me. If they adopted a different, and non-partisan, gesture then I doubt more than a few would have a problem with it.

Perhaps because there are actual racists on PH who can't help but expose themselves however well they attempt to hide it. There's a reason why so much time is spent on shooting the messenger, nitpicking the action, or squirreling off topic, rather than accepting that some people are affected by racism and actively want to do something about it.Gassing Station | News, Politics & Economics | Top of Page | What's New | My Stuff
