488GTB turbo failure?
Discussion
started (as you do) looking at 488GTB, immediately read a few threads online about turbo shaft failure. It doesnt appear to be a massive recurrent topic but i have found a few mentions, how common is it?
assume covered under Factory warranty generally?
anything else to worry about /avoid etc?
cheers

The upshot is that the jury is still out as to the reason why they can sometimes fail but there appears to be a reasonable correlation between modified cars and turbo failures.

Prepared to be shot down in flames, but completely based on anecdotal info from forums over the years it seems to me that the Ferrari warranty is very similar to McLaren, but this seems to be generally accepted as part of the cost of owning one.
I really wanted to buy a 458 or 488, but at my price point I'd have been in trouble if the worst happened, and the car I could afford would be at the cheaper end, therefore I went 570S which I could afford to but a decent one and warranty / self warranty.
Maybe because the cars are more expensive to buy second hand the people that do can afford to deal with bigger unexpected bills?
Not saying Mc is better than Ferrari in any way, just find it interesting that there's a different attitude towards each brands customer care ethos

The perils of modifying under warranty Trev! Eeek.

I'd certainly not be playing with it if I buy one.

I went mclaren warranty on my 570 for peace of mind, a big bill wouldn't wipe me out but would still sting so I'm factoring in something used approved still under warranty I reckon.
