Wow! Just seen the news. Very sad. I wasn't a huge fan in my youth, being more of a Led Zeppelin fan and NWOBHM follower, but hugely respected the band and they always seemed to be absolutely adored by their fans. It feels like the end of an era with his death.

Fell over in his studio apparently and had a bleed on the brain which ultimately took his life. Sad passing for such a legendary figure.

This hurts, loved his early 70’s playing and was someone who got me into guitar, always seemed a really cool genuine rock n roll character as well.

Every time I hear one of Ace's solos it takes me straight back to the seventies - one of the most influential guitarists ever, and pure rock and roll.

Saw their first UK concert (Free Trade Hall Manchester £2 for front row) Nearly suffocated in the dry ice and my ears were ringing for weeks! Got a plectrum he threw out somewhere.

Such a great shame. I always loved his solo on 'Love Gun' . Nothing overly technical or dramatic but always seems to me to just suit the song perfectly. Just about to put on his '78 solo album, His and Paul Stanleys were the best of the four KISS era solo ablums IMO,

Somewhere in a wardrobe upstairs, I still have all the Guitar World magazines I bought between 1990 and 1995. In one of them is a lesson with Ace where half of the lesson was spent discussing how to stretch your strings after fitting a new set.

I've followed it religiously since reading it (the string stretching thing)

I do also remember that his subsequent playing tips were simplistic, but his licks were perfect for sounding fast and loud.

RIP to a guitar player perfect of the time and the band.

That’s mad, I literally do the same string stretching thing since reading possibly the same article decades ago, works so well!!

I think his main strength was playing a solo that complimented the song, simple but effective.
