I’m finally conceding defeat here. I’d like to consider myself very DIY competent but having fitted this kitchen last year I still can’t get my head around how to clip these soft close bits on to the hinges.

I’m sure there’s a knack but I can’t crack it. When I feel like I’ve got them clipped on, 5 seconds later I hear “pop” and they are off again.

I’ve watched every video I could find, tried all manner of angles and still no joy.

PistonHeads. Save me.

These are the bds in question.

If they're like mine then inside they have two fixed hooks at the back and two springs at the front. Engage the hooks first, then a hearty wallop will snap the springs in. If that's not working maybe you've deformed the springs.

We have the same. If you post a photo of the soft close from the other side it would be easier to explain

if you have adjusted the hinges to true the door they can be really tight to get back on, especially if the have been adjusted to their max setting
I always clip the top hinge on first. much easier as it takes the weight of the door while you sort the bottom hinge

I’d like to think I haven’t deformed 20 of the damn things

Not sure they are the correct ones?

Anyway, I’d bin those off and get actual soft close hinges, not those adapters

OK, you have two fixed hooks and one spring. Is the distance between them about the same as the length of the square hole? As 119 says they look miles out to me.

They do look incorrect. If they are the right ones resist the urge to lever them on Just line them up and flat push

It seems that hinge style has INTEGRATED BLUMOTION which can be deactivated. So are you sure the hinges don t have it built in and there s a little lever of method of turning it on or off? I agree with others that those dampers probably aren t for your hinges.

Edit

I reckon you’ve got the standard hinges as below and there doesn’t seem to be any documentation I found about adding soft close.

I reckon you need to change the actual hinges to the bluemotion soft close version.

In some ways this is giving me huge sense of relief - if I have got the wrong hinges I may not be the total idiot I’d convinced myself I was, given I can’t manage this simple task.

Though I am puzzled if they are wrong, naturally being PH this is from DIY Kitchens and I wouldn’t have thought they’d make such a basic mistake?

Yeah I got 2 links in my post - first like yours to soft close, 2nd is the non soft close.

The question is, can those dampers be fitted to non soft close hinges?! I’m guessing not.

I’d agree with this. I was at a local Howdens branch yesterday picking something up for our kitchen and messing with the display kitchens noticed some doors with those additional dampers on the hinges I’d not seen before.

Our doors all have soft close built into the standard hinge (no additional damper) with the little flick switch/lever on the hinge to disable it.

The hinge in the original post looks to be a standard hinge without the soft close switch. Not sure if the damper fits to that so the two combined = soft close however?

Good luck!
