if a non uk passport holder travels to the uk, what length of time must be left on the visa?

google says there is no minimum, and my reading of the gov.uk website is that it's fine as long as the visa is valid on the date of ENTRY. but just wondering if anyone knows for sure, especially on the last part.

the current visa was issued [i don't know the exact date] in december 2023 and is valid for 2 years. the holder has had multiple visas issued previously and will be going for a 5 year one next. only we are wondering if a quick pre-xmas trip is possible on the current one.

Depends on the passport. On an Australian passport you can stay without a visa for up to six months

Try googling with your nationality.

If you've had previous visas that are expiring you might be required to leave even if you can re enter without a visa.

Presumably they are a visa national, so they can enter up to the expiry of the visa, though they have to leave before the expiry date too.

That's what I assumed [having to leave before date of expiry] and used to when it's the other way around, but that is not what is said on the gov.uk website. C&P from there:

- You must have a valid passport to enter the UK. It should be valid for the whole of your stay.
- Before you travel, check that your visa is valid and will not expire before you enter the UK.

It is an Indian passport, holder has Swiss residency but the former is what counts at the border. She's never had any issue flying in/out. It is simply whether we can or not ton this occasion, as it would be at very late notice.

I will google some more, but still welcome any first hand experience.

I believe it depends on the type of visa.

For a standard visitor visa, you are allowed to stay for up to 6 months from date of entry - your visa only needs to be valid on date of entry.

For some other types of visa, your period of permitted stay is per the period of validity of the visa, not based on the date of entry.
