Does anyone know whether this thermostat is still available or if there is a modern replacement?

I’ll get the model number later. It’s in my parents house.

It’s not the world’s youngest boiler!

Buy a new boiler, it will soon pay for itself over that antique!

EBay is your best bet. But potterton do still exist and make spares.

Not convinced changing the boiler for a new one will be of benefit. Modern boilers may be more efficient but they don’t last nearly as long

Which is exactly why it has not been replaced. It’s a big boiler right in the centre of a large house so the costs of replacing it could be significant with no guarantee that the savings will actually pay for it before the replacement requires replacing.

Gas engineers that visit are either of the opinion it should be replaced or that it should be left alone until it fails terminally.

British gas buy all potterton spares and hoard them they buy in bulk when a manufacturer makes a old boiler obsolete (normally after 15 years) get the model number and try and speak to a bg technician when hes in his van parked up they will be able to see on the laptop if still available.

Other than that ebay probably best bet although unlikely.

I'm sure another make of thermostat could easily be substituted if you can still find such a thing that supports a thermocouple.

This is the part but it does look to be obsolete.

What is the issue with it?

Boiler appears to be operating at maximum temperature so room it is in gets ridiculously hot.

Suggested that they get someone in to look at it, and the part appears available on eBay. So if that is the fault they can get the part.

The thermostat is probably made by RANCO remove the facia and gain access to the thermostat it will have a RANCO part number printed on the side you can then search for that part number as back in the day boilers were built out of non specific parts and often the same stat was used on multiple boilers.

Better chance using RANCO ******* than the Potterton part number

I cut my teeth fixing those, man im an old coont !

Good luck

I trust there's a CO monitor 50cm below the ceiling in that room.

Looks exactly like the boiler we had in the 70s.

Cat used to sleep under it and we frequently had to revive him in the morning due to fumes leaking out of it overnight, and leaving the kitchen door closed (fire spread precaution, lol).

Fortunately houses built straight after WW2 were so draughty that we didn't all die from CO poisoning.

The good old days.

You tell kids today that and they wouldn't believe you.

'Oles in't road' are all the rage these days!

Can't help the OP - other than suggest he cleans the contracts - but in the PH Old Boiler Competition I hereby enter my 1988 Ideal Elan.
