And to add to the above make sure if it a german import, make sure it comes with the fahrzeugbrief (vehicle i.d)and the vca certification docs.Dont bother with rac inspection go direct to porsche,if you intend to take the warranty(imho is a must)good choice hope it works out for you.

(1) Check that the PCM Nav unit in the front does read the disk and does eject the CD's. Takes a while to boot so that’s normal.
(2) German cars generally better and higher standard of care. Check paperwork. Fahrzeugbrief brief not always with car, mine never got returned by Wimbledon DVLA !
(3) Match option codes on the under bonnet sticker with those in the owners book.
(4) Check phone module works for SIM if it is fitted.

Basically focus on Audio / Nav / Electrical because the OPC Porsche Warrantee does NOT cover them. You do !

Mechanically speaking hair line fractures between the holes on front disks are a sign of a hard life. White smoke on start up is normal so don’t worry. Not a single mechanical issue ever with my car and a recent rolling road at the same place as 1 year ago and the car is up 6 bhp on the same fuel. Engine stronger than ever. My cabin has the odd rattle and suspension does knock a bit now but this is really age and I am sure some bushes need replacing. Front (and to a lesser extent rear) drop links are a notorious 996 replacement item – check if done recently.

If you are motivated enough and can get the name of the previous foreign owner use www.wayp.com/eng/europa3.shtml to find the yellow pages of country they are from and call them up. Most people are happy to talk about the cars they owned. Valuable since some cars that get exported are very very occasionally not allowed back on German roads after accident repair but find their way abroad.

An inspection is well worth the money if no OPC warrantee. Forget the AA and RAC ones they don’t have the specialist knowledge. Find and independent and pay £200+ for a ½ day inspection including a drive + full report. What they find will usually give you over £200 worth of negotiation strength on cost and reassure you too.

Good luck, put some pics up if you get it
