I have a twice-weekly journey of 15 miles on single carriageway A-Roads and I’m well used to roadworks being scheduled for the school holidays, but this week has seen a new record - there are currently 5 different instances of work (2 complete road closures and 3 sets of temporary lights).

Two of the sets of lights were on the signed diversion for one of the road closures!

I completely understand scheduling the work in the quieter periods, but two things struck me whilst waiting at a 4-way temporary light arrangement;

- how do the contractors resource the manpower when so much of the work is scheduled simultaneously?

- is 5 sets of roadworks in a 15 mile journey some sort of record?

Re: manpower - 1 man sat in the van per site, 1 or 2 periodically hefting a shovel. Not too difficult wink
