So this car is available in China and all the main car news sites had an article about it back in 2024 as coming to Europe late 2025. It is, probably, the perfect car for me and i was looking forward to its release.

However since the initial news article there has been zero content from any UK/EU source. I suspect it's wider release has been dropped but wanted to ask the collective if they knew anything.

Such a shame

A fellow 06GT nerd! I too have been checking for information online just about every week. Yes, it seems perfect for most families.
I can only assume it hasn't been exported because there's something wrong, like crash test results aren't up to scratch. If we can buy BYD's other cars, no other reason makes sense.

Speculating, Europe is the only world region where hatchbacks dominate, NA and Asia tend to prefer either saloons or SUVs/MPVs. So BYD may have developed the GT variant of the Seal saloon in order to sell it mainly in Europe, however in late 2024 the EU hit them with 17% extra import tariffs https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/articles/cly20n4d0g9o . So they may now be wondering if it's worth building the hatch at all, if it'll no longer be competitive in its main market; or waiting to see if their negotiations with Brussels yield a helpful outcome.

Or it may just have been put on the back burner while they try to respond to all the tariff madness and rapidly shifting sands of consumer demand, they may be too busy installing engines in their existing EVs https://www.autocar.co.uk/car-news/new-cars/new-by... and shifting production to Thailand https://carnewschina.com/2025/08/26/byd-avoids-eu-... to bring the GT to production right now.

I hope we see it sooner or later, it looks nice and RWD hatches are always welcome, but I can imagine reasons it may be delayed.
