I don't know anything about this .
In short I would like to be able to see who comes to my door when I am away on holiday.

I guess it's a motion activated camera that sends me an alert so I can look.

Is there such a kit ?

Thank you

Sounds like a Ring doorbell or similar.

Amazon Blink will work too - I've had mine for a good few years now and its great. Battery life is incredible with mine lasting a good 2 years between AA battery changes (they specify using Lithium AAs and not Alkalines though). You do have to make sure that you turn motion detection off if you are going to be around the cameras doing stuff in yard/garden though, as otherwise it will keep triggering and uploading and burning battery.

However, I got it before they introduced a sub so new buyers now have to pay monthly for the cloud storage which was 'free for life' when I got mine. However, I believe there is now a non-sub local storage option on the new hubs so that might be good enough (assuming it is accessible remotely and not just on your home network).

Personally I'm allergic to monthly subscriptions to such things.

We've got some Reolink cameras that have an app which allows remote viewing of the Cameras (from the phone either on the home wifi or remotely over data or someone elses wifi). They also have a series of doorbell cameras as well.

Storage is local (microsd in the camera or an NVR).

I'd definitely avoid Amazon devices, or any that only work if they're connected to the internet.

I would recommend Reolink. I have three of their cameras and a video doorbell that's been working flawlessly for a couple of years.

The doorbell has lost some picture quality recently but to be fair, it started after some heavy rains and I think that's on me for not sealing the back of it properly (I have it on a custom mount).

I think most of these cameras are a bit more sophisticated than just motion now. Mine will distinguish between people, animals, vehicles and other motion events, so you can limit your notifications to people detection only so you're not being bothered all the time.

You don't necessarily need a doorbell video camera.
I've got a £25 cctv camera that captures all movement on an internal memory card and notifies me on the accompanying app on my phone.
It's very customisable too.
The only thing it needs is a power supply.
