I am going to see two Cayennes tomorrow - a 4 month old eHybrid and a 2 year old GTS. Difference in price is £2k.

I have previously had a test drive in an eHybrid and Cayenne S. (V8). They were night and day different and needless to say the V8 was the star - but the cost was eye watering.

I know I will want the GTS - but I finally need to start being sensible and to decide whether the initial thrill of a V8 GTS will wear off and if I will regret not buying the car that will be cheaper to run.

Has anyone owned both and can give a sensible comparison?

I should say that fuel costs may not be too much of a factor as I have a Tesla Model Y for everyday duties. Main use for the Cayenne will be twice yearly runs to the Alps plus other longer journeys when I can’t be bothered with charging the Tesla and probably 4k a year of general driving.

I know I’ll probably go for the GTS but any man maths or other justification would help me sleep better!

I have an EV as a daily - in fact we have 2 - and love the way they drive. But, if you already have a Tesla for main duties, it would be the GTS every time. Methinks the hybrid will feel a bit meh after a while wink

Thank you - bit of a first world problem but been there so many times when I have been bowled over by the sportier choice and then regretted it, so need to make a more rational choice.

I suspect the GTS is the way to go, but if there is a huge difference in running costs, it would be good to know

If you don’t do much mileage then the GTS is the only choice. It’ll hold its value better as well and you won’t need to juggle the charger with your Tesla. Less to go wrong as well. It’s actually not a matter of head over heart at all in this case.

A Tesla is perfectly capable of getting to and from the Alps. I've done it twice in a mate's 3 up with all our ski mountaineering gear.

Forget the Cayenne and go and look at the 911s and Caysters evil

Being sensible, I'd have thought the V8 is a no brainer. Even with greater annual running costs, it might be cheaper overall (or near as makes no distance) with depreciation taken into account.

I'd rather live with the regret of having the V8 as opposed to the regret of not having it

We have an ehybrid and regret not buying a V6 or v8 petrol every time we turn the key to start it.

It’s so depressing

We love the car, but a Porsche should start and make a noise. Ours just goes “beep”

Actually why I came on the forum today to ask about it.

Please get the GTS !

All points taken on board. Seeing two GTS’s this afternoon.

I have done the Alps in the Tesla and the charging infrastructure was great - but it did take at least 1-2 hours longer than when we do it in the current Land Rover.

Plan is to get the GTS and then the sportier car may come when the Tesla goes back in 2 years
