Next year i might be looking to free up some time and attack what was once a pretty formal garden of approx 1/2 acre.

I have kept on top of the lawns, paths and larger bushes, but where there was once a herb garden, is now a weed garden, and the flowers and pretty shrubs are a little sad looking.

I know lots of "gardeners", the type that turn up with a lawnmower, hedge trimmer and chainsaw, but they wouldn't know about the more delicate side of gardening, and because they tend to rock up with £20,000 worth of gear and bulldoze everything for one hour and move on, they are about £100 an hour, which doesn't lend its self to the more relaxed side of gardening.

So, how do I find a 'pretty' gardener, and no I don't ,mean a 20 year old blonde, someone that will potter about the garden, trowel in one hand, cuppa tea in the other, and not charge a fortune.

Probably looking at 2 week stint to start, then a day a fortnight - ish

If you have a nice garden and want someone to essentially do borders and planting it is dead easy: Facebook will find you lots of people who want to do that but don’t have enough space at home.

Where it gets trickier is avoiding the mower/strimmer/leaf blower/no actual knowledge of gardening brigade that also inhabit Facebook when you’re trying to find people that can do the slightly heavier jobs without butchering everything in sight.

Hi.

Are you going to be hands on ?
Is this a new hobby?
Do you want to just have a pretty garden and a monthly bill?

How about a pensioner ? Depends on your location , but maybe go to the local allotments and find a presentable plot and then set about luring the gardener with a shiny new mini garden tractor trailer combo and a pretty private oasis away from the council hoards

Isn’t it a Landscaper you need?

I don t need a pro, no designs needed, it’s all there, and pretty, just unmanaged

Nor do I need a landscaper, they do the heavy stuff, patios, new borders, walls etc

The heaviest machine the person I need will use is a kettle

Allotments are a good idea, I pass a local one a lot

I find with must shrubs etc that you can cut them back almost as hard as you like and they’ll reshoot.

I take the approach if they die they die and I’ll replace them!

It doesn’t take that long then to get the shrubs under control. Herb garden will be best by digging out and replacing the herbs.

You will though need to read the shredder thread!

Ask at your local independent garden centre. We went to ours and asked if they offered gardening as a service or had contacts and they provided a few contacts. We had about 30sqm of flower beds that had come to the end of their life and we wanted to replace them.
