I bought an i8 coupe last week and absolutely love it, the best car I've ever had
However
On filing it up yesterday the fuel cap was difficult to open and more difficult to close ! - I googled this which brought up a number of YouTube videos on the subject ( not just i8 related but with a number of different BMW models )
Has anyone had this happen ? Was it difficult / expensive to fix ? Is it something which is an easy fix or likely to take sometime ?
I feel that my car will be covered under the warranty from the dealer, just a bit inconvenient really !

I assume you are pressing the button on the drivers door to depressurise the tank before it unlocks the flap?...it does take a few seconds.
If it still misbehaves after cleaning/lubing I'd drop in to a local garage and get them to have a look, it may be that the acutator for the lock is coming to the end of its life - not a difficult or expensive fix (assuming avoiding main dealer).
I did clean then grease all the locks/latches on mine when I first got it, just as preventative maintenance, as I have done will all my previous cars.

Thanks very much - I hadn't realised that the release had to be held down for a few seconds - as always I expected immediate gratification ! - I'll try that later. No. You don't hold the button for a few seconds.
Just press at normal, release and wait.
It's not uncommon for the mech to stick. Can be replaced under warranty.
There's a green emergency pull inside the boot on the right, behind the panel.
If that doesn't open it, try pulling whilst you tap the filler cover with the palm of your hand.
Ultimately, lubricate it or get the mechanism replaced.
