My son lives in Istanbul. He loves his music, and when he's here, he enjoys my entry level AV receiver, bookshelf speakers and quake sub.

We thought he'd like to have a similar system for his new flat, so I've got his partner to do some research. OUCH!!!
An amp from Richer Sounds here in the UK at £500 is £1500 in Turkey!

That's putting a serious problem in the way.

Does anyone have any good advice about sourcing an AV receiver and a pair of decent floor standers in Istanbul please?
Something like Denon AVR-S760HGB and Denon AVR-S760HGB

Could you ship a system to him?

It's beginning to look like that's the best way.

Trying to get a handle on actual CIF and duty/taxes in Turkey.
And it looks as if I'll need to get a used amp and speakers to avoid most of the taxes

Would you buying them and then selling to him count as used?

I don t know about Istanbul customs, but these guys aren t stupid, they know all the tricks, have seen it all before. It s at times like this that people stop saying silly things like “Rip off Britain”.

If he is both the sender and receiver on the shipping docs then he should be able to avoid duties.

I can give you the details of the guy I use to ship used car parts to myself, he sends airfreight door to door via dhl but is cheaper than using dhl direct.

For comparison, I sent myself a used Ducati engine (dismantled) inside a 110l crate from b&q. Airfreight door to door from uk to Dubai for under £300, all fees paid.
