Hi, i have noticed a few drops of oil on my lower engine mount which appears from doing some searching to be coming from the timing cam cover .
This does not look like a long job and at the same time i would like to get the belt replaced as well.

The job looks like it would be easier to have a garage to it due to having a lift and also needing a special tool for the cam seal , it looks like something i could do but to be honest it may be a bit awkward on the drive and if the labour cost is not to bad it makes sense to get a garage do it..As anyone any experience etc on this issue on either doing themselves or a garage ...Thanks

timing and cam cover are two different things and neither will involve a cam seal on this engine

do you have a pic of the area you're concerned about?

the rocker/cam cover, doesn't require a lift but is involved as it means removal and refitting of injectors, carefully

I wonder if you're referring to the lower cover at the front of the engine by the aux belt as you mention this belt, this would house the front main seal if that's what you're thinking off (chain is between the engine and gearbox, not at the front), not all seals really need the special tools, some though are worthwhile because of the seating position or getting a seal over a shaft in situ perhaps

if it is this, the vibration damper would have to come off, this in itself is an item known to fail, the bolts for it would require renewal

the best thing really is to get it jacked up and totally cleaned off for review, imo

iirc it has a dual face, so also seals against the sump, potentially a leak in the area could be from either joint, or the main seal....

Hi, i have had the car on ramps and found the oil leak issue ,in fact there were two ..
The first issue is the bottom left hand corner of the lower timing cover a common issue i have found after doing some research ,new part required ..
The second issue ,and i must add these are only slight leaks is the oil level sensor .I was going to purchase a new unit but found out that they are serviceable with a new gasket/oil seal...Both parts are OEM ...The lower timing cover and new belt are being done at a local indy garage and i did tell them that a tool is required for the cam seal so they are aware of that ...The oil level seal i have done myself ,pretty easy and i will stress that they 3 nuts should be tightened to the correct torque mine was 7.5Nm to 9Nm ..
