Passed away yesterday at home at the grand age of 93

Many a time was spent watching Fawlty Towers. I didn't know she was married to Timothy West

EVERYBODY knew that smile

You obviously never watched their canal journeys programme.

Lots of nice tributes here -

Very sad news.

I loved (and still do) Fawlty Towers. What a great straight woman Prunella was against John Cleese.

I also enjoyed the Great Canal Journeys series with Timothy West. Very reflective, funny and sad.....

RIP.

My favourite story is that for the scene where she whacks O'Reilly with an umbrella they all wanted her to really go for it, but she was worried about hurting him. You can see that the umbrella had padding inside.

Canal Journeys was a good watch but I can't think of too many actresses who leave a legacy of being known for playing a role almost 50 years ago and one which will probably still be talked about in another 50 years.

93 is a damned good innings smile

The announcement from the family said:
“Although dementia forced her retirement from a remarkable acting career of nearly 70 years, she continued to live at home. She was watching Fawlty Towers the day before she died.

Farewell, Ms. Fawlty, and thanks for all the laughs.

I thought that at the time of Timothy West’s passing last year it would be horrible for Prunella Scales. I can’t imagine what the last year must have been like. Dementia stricken and without her partner. 10s of 1000s go through it but heartbreaking to imagine.

She was diagnosed a very long time ago I’d be surprised if she knew he was alive or dead srs
