Just wondering anyone had much experience in getting DVLA to correct a digit error on the vin on the V5 ?

Classic car i’m buying they have a vin digit down as “2” on the V5 rather than the correct “Z”

The car has been registered here in the U.K. since the late 70’s so presumably that mistake has been on there all this time

Do they change it fairly easily ? Thanks

Had a similar thing, many years ago. An S instead of a 5.

DVLA changed it without any issue as far as I remember.

Same here though in my case my car was inspected as it had happened a couple of times before.

Where did you have to go to get it inspected or did they come to you ? They charge you for it ?

Regarding my one , if it’s been like that on the V5 all this time since the late 70’s is there any harm in just leaving it as is ? Because it obviously hasn’t been a problem is almost 50 years etc

Talk to them by the live chat service and see what evidence they need. They may just want a photograph of the chassis plate and the stamping and a covering letter. A 5 for an S is an easy mistake.

They came to me, no charge. it was all done in a few minutes. I had the car's ID plate in my hand as it had just been resprayed. The inspector verified the number then reminded me to re-fit it to the car. That was about 15 years ago, I still haven't got round to doing it.
