Hello all.

Anyone know of any sites or apps where you can rent or go to an office space a day or 2 a week to get out of the house ?

Thanks

No, but local library, health/sports club etc
My company hired space in a Regus/Spaces building and they have space for individuals

I have worked from home since covid, looked at various options but some are very expensive. Now I am happy to work half the day in my pyjamas and stay home

Was this not the business model of WeWork?

Pretty sure there were others too.

I use a Santander work cafe a few days a week to break up the routine. Not sure where you are based as to whether there is one near you.

Probably best to compare the rent-an-office rates to the cost of going in the office.

Might be cheaper to just go into the office.

The search term you are looking for is

Coworking space.

They do everything from “sit at a desk in an open plan office” through to your own small room through to larger managed offices for small teams.

Worth a look if there are any locations near to you. The one in Chelmsford looks nice from the outside when I've been to the coffee shop next door.

Regus/Spaces have a huge network of offices around the UK/abroad and would allow you to book on a adhoc basis. They are expensive and have some pretty sharp business practices from experience. Most towns and cities will have a local equivalent, but without the wider network.

As others have said, the big players like Regus, WeWork etc will all offer rates for renting you a desk space as you need it, but it won't be cheap.

You are much better off finding a local, independent, shared office business. Try googling it or asking on a local Facebook group. Most towns and cities seem to have independently run shared working spaces available.

As for prices, my knowledge on this suggests that you will pay around £150-200 per month if you wanted a desk for 2 days per week-ish.

If you do this for 12 months, you will have spent £2400.

If you spend £4700 (using the 50% offer), you could get one of these in your garden:

I had to pop into a Regus office recently to sign some documents and scan them in in a secure building. It cost something like 23ph but I assume other locations would be more/less.

As someone said above, 'co-working space' is the term you need to search for.

We-work and Regus tend to be expensive, more aimed at the 'someone else is paying' end of the market

Where are you based? someone may be able to suggest one. I know several in south London.

I pay £280ish a month for a fixed desk in a shared office, 24 hr access. Day rate here is 10-15£ I think.

Years ago, at a low point after my divorce, I was trying to keep some freelance work going while having no home wifi. I had the bright idea of sitting in Wetherspoons for hours using their free wifi and only paying £1 a day for refillable tea. This worked fine as a free office for a few days, but after that I found that each user has a limit of about 20 hours' wifi access per month, then you get cut off.

Later in my career I had several spells of working in teams based in WeWork facilities. I found it interesting how these sites varied, catering to different working cultures. One WeWork near Aldgate had a very studenty vibe, a lot of pop art on the walls and big areas of comfy sofa seating, and was mostly populated by young creative types and tech start-ups, all dressed very casually. Other sites only a short distance away near Bank and Liverpool Street were much more corporate - smart offices for people in suits.

worked for a startup for 14 months who where based in wework, wasn't cheap but I was pretty much the only person in there, nice amenities to be fair.

My brother got rid of his office/unit during covid and has recently started renting a similar sized office in a shared coworking type space. Private office own keys etc, could comfortably fit 6 people working, he uses it more for single work and meetings with up to 8 additional people. The company had an offer of 6 months 1/2 price, so its around £280 per month now, rising to just £560 in a few months time, he did have to sort his own internet (they wanted £30 per month additional, we got a 5g hub for £10 per month), but cleaning is included and any maintenance / decorating is only £15ph

WeWork is only £30-£40 a day on demand or £250 per month unlimited. Not sure if that s expensive but seems reasonable to me.

The smaller chains can be even less. One local to me is £25 per day.

It’s a competitive market.
