As mentioned in a previous post, I bought an i8 coupe last week and absolutely love it, however I'm still a little unsure of the best way to utilise the available driving "modes"

My understanding is -

"Sport". for open roads - "pressing on" - and recharging batteries by utilising regenerative braking

"Comfort" . as per title a more comfortable "less harsh" set up for open roads and town driving

"Eco Pro " for in town driving in traffic to give maximum electric range and economy

The details state an mpg figure of 135 however I also read that, not surprisingly, this is unrealistic and somewhere between 50 - 70 should be attainable.

Not sure if I've got the hang of driving it in the most suitable modes at the most appropriate times. I don't have a charging facility at home or work and haven't charged it yet. I've done about three hundred miles and the battery is still at maximum charge( as it was when I collected it ). I've been driving between "Sport" to ensure the battery remains topped up and when I get to around 8 miles showing on the gauge I've been changing to "Comfort'" or "Eco pro" until the figure is down to 2 miles and then switching back into "Sport" to re-charge.At some stage I need to start utilising the full charge and going further on "Eco mode" ( hope that makes sense ! )

Not sure if I'm doing this right and I'd appreciate any advice and experiences from other owners please

Thanks

Luke.

I wouldn't overthink the modes in all honesty...

I never use the toggle switch by the gearstick to change modes.

Probably 90% of the time I just get in, press start, select D and off I go.

You get regen in the normal mode when lifting off the accelerator - indicated by the needle on the inside of the right dial in the dash binnacle.
You can easily add a mile by coasting down an off slip of an A road or motorway for example.

Sport mode - the engine is always on obviously but it's also acting as a generator to recharge the battery as you've found, along with the sharper throttle, holding onto gears for longer and a stiffening up of the dampers.

Enjoy the journey!

if you're not charging on the plug at all, I'd just get in and drive. if you want a hoon, put it in sport. otherwise I would leave as-is.

I get around 70-80mpg charging daily. You'll not get near this without charging.

Eco pro is equally for highway driving out of town, it just reduces throttle response and I think shuts off or lowers ancillary power items, maybe heated mirror etc to reduce electricity consumption.

All electric is for town and suburbs, the button just below the start/stop button..

All in the manual wink

... forgot.

I think eco pro is what gives you predictive guidance on the head up display, I.e. the blue foot coming off the throttle pedal to maximise regen when approaching junctions etc.
