I'm seeing a few reviews of the Alpine A390 GT and GTS popping up now, ahead of orders opening in early November.

What do people think of this?

The prices are very punchy - £60k (GT) and £70k (GTS)
The new BMW iX3 is cheaper and winning all the spec comparisons for me. Feels like the list prices need to be both £10k cheaper - I guess it will come down to what the monthly cost will be.

I think it's definitely a heart over head purchase

BMW charges extra for a heating steering. in 2025. but then again, it does up to 500 miles.

Yes true, but....
The BMW iX3 50 is £62k, that's £8k cheaper than this - I'll pay the £250 extra for the heated wheel on the BMW smile

No rear armrest or cup holders. Feels daft given its likely role as a family wagon.

I’m not American and cup holder obsessed , but kids do occasionally need to eat and drink on road trips.

Think it’s going to be a hard sell. I don’t like the crossover looks and the sizeable overhangs. For me, if you want range and practicality you’ll go for the iX3, if you want a drivers EV you’ll go for an i5N, and if you want a bit of both you’ll go for a Polestar 4.

Exactly what I was thinking

I quite like it but the wheels look disproportionately large to me. Not sure it’s going to be a big seller either if the monthlies don’t stack up.

I’m still tempted because it’s different and the looks are growing on me. Hopefully they’ll offer a broader colour palette in time like the A110, some better wheels and a glass roof.

Don’t worry, it’s got lap-time telemetry which will be far more useful I’m sure wobble

I quite like it, but would have to see one in the flesh to confirm. It looks more interesting than either the iX3 or the Macan EV but the interior is maybe a bit borderline boy racer. The triple motor setup could potentially be a game-changer too. Alpine are putting a lot of emphasis on its dynamic capability, so I’m keen to test drive one.

They're going to struggle with this. £70k for a Renault quality interior and infotainment not going to cut it and nothing special about the specs.

As with the iPace it may drive really well, but will anyone care? I doubt it.

Renault infotainment (which seems quite well received) but the interior quality looks a step above from what I’ve seen in walkaround videos.

I think it will sell mostly on unique looks, much like the A290.

Nobody will actually pay £70k list beyond maybe a few keen early adopters. £60k for the GTS would seem more realistic.

Interesting that they are pitching it against the Macan EV rather than the Tesla/Hyundai alternatives.

£70k for a Renault scenic is mental. Even for that steering wheel. There's better options out there, esp as lease and PCP prices will be poor. At least it's better than that god awful abarth 600e

What are the “better” options? I’ve driven the more expensive Macan EV and thought it was thoroughly bland and uninspiring. At least this looks quite interesting. Not saying it’s worth £70k, but I’m sure you wouldn’t have to pay that.

Ioniq 5n for a start.

List price £65k, so a bit cheaper. I know there are cheap lease deals etc, but all we know about the Alpine right now is the list price.

As for “better” I don’t know. Would have to see and drive both. I’m not a big fan of the Ioniq 5n looks or the Kia EV6 GT, but that’s entirely subjective.

As long as it drives like they say it does, then I think the A390 will sell to those who prefer the Frenchy looks over the Koreans, Tesla etc. and I think plenty will. Personally I think it’s the best looking new EV in this class.

I'd say the EV6 GT is the most obvious competitor. Except it's nearly 50% more powerful than the A390 GTS, charges much faster and is £10k cheaper. On paper the Alpine looks rather daft in comparison, but of course we don't buy cars on paper.

I agree that the Alpine is better looking at the Kia or Hyundai but none of them are going to win any beauty contests.

I think they’ve got the pricing very wrong on this. They are entering a very competitive section of the market with more ev’s being added. This should have started at 43-45k.

I think the A390 GTS probably has enough power not to matter much for most buyers. Not sure about the lesser GT model, but quite a price hike for the GTS. The Alpine looks to have about 40-50 miles more range than the Kia, which I would find much more useful than faster DC charging.

Agree with the above, I think Renault in general is on a roll but this feels way too expensive list price wise.
I'd still take a Ioniq 5N over it in a heartbeat.

Having read the TG review I'm even more sure it'll struggle.

Much smaller than an Ioniq 5 N, quite soft in setup so better suited to GT duties and a bit cheap feeling inside.
