This is age dependent but how interested are you in your weight?

In my case, waist circumfurence is the more medically relevant metric, but for some reason I find measuring that a lot more annoying.

Some months back I got the impression I was losing weight suddenly for no obvious reason, so I went through a phase of weighing myself multiple times per day. What surprised me was that over the space of a couple of days, my weight went up and down by as much as 2kg. I don't know if this is normal, or even just my scales playing up. It generally seemed to be lowest first thing in the morning, before eating or drinking anything. After a few weeks of weighing, it was obvious that despite these big fluctuations, there wasn't an ongoing trend, so I stopped bothering.

Age 54

Concious of my weight, it's creeping up year on year. Look ok clothed (so I'm told lol) but not liking mirrors when the clothes are off.

If I'm careful I can maintain easily.

I now have to put a massive effort in to lose any.

Late 40’s about 12.5 stones. In my teens to early 30’s I was always just either side of 12. Mid 30’s I started to go to the gym regularly and crept up to just over 13. Settled down at current weight.

Waist has always been 30” ish, again a year or so back crept to 32” now 31” which is ok at my age.

I’m pretty lucky as I don’t pile weight on easily and don’t have a massive appetite for unhealthy food. Waist measurement increased last year as I was drinking more alcohol.

In my 50s, I want to continue to look athletic when I look in the mirror. This is a side effect of me actually training for athleticism in sport!

NFI what I weigh. Probably over 11 stones for 5'8.

When at home i weigh in every day, its the 2nd job of the day just after the morning clear out. For the last 20 ish years i have been a steady 15st 5 to 10 lbs. After a week or 2 of holidays i normally creep over 16st but it doesn't take more than a week to get back to my comfort zone.

That's normal, due to water retention. I weigh myself daily and it can fluctuate by a few pounds dependent on what I've eaten the day before. However I did notice that after falling out of a tree a few weeks back whilst pruning branches and injuring my back my weight suddently shot up by 4-6lbs! Something to do with the body retaining water to assist with healing I believe.

My weight has been consistent for over 30yrs despite the fact I eat what I want including all the stuff I shouldn't. But why take out the enjoyment in life. Early 60s 6ft 11st 7lbs. I have a strong 'core' (despite and overlayer of fat), run 5 x week with 10mins of HIIT but have a physique where putting weight on would see it all on the waist above and below the belt line. My waist at 34 should ideally be 32 but losing weight takes it off everywhere else making me look ill/gaunt and I can't seem to concentrate 'weight loss' in one particular area if I was at all bothered given 100+ sit ups and 50+ press ups a day hasn't done anything.

You need to do a Gauge R&R. And Maybe a hysterisis test, with known weights.

Your last sentence makes me smile. Because of a statistical central limit theorem. The more measurements you take, the closer the calculated mean is the real measurement. If you took 30 random measurements each week and compared the average, you'd know if there was a trend. After say 5 weeks. Which is kind of what you did.

My wife was quite ill recently. In 2 weeks in Southport Hospital she lost a stone. Over the next 8 weeks she lost another stone. The operation took a few lbs off her. And in the 5 weeks since then she's moved 1/4 of a 1lb upwards. Now almost 6 stone 13 Ibs.
I've lost 5lbs in the same time.

You can’t spot reduce fat anyway, you could do 500 sit ups a day and it wouldn’t make any difference

I constantly keep an eye on my weight because it helps me stay at my target. I also did a week of 4 weighs a day just to see. I found the same as you - changes about 2kg between the high and low each day.

I weigh myself daily as the scales store weight, heart rate, visceral fat etc. If I wanted to I could look at the data but don't bother as I know when I feel healthy. A quick Friday beer or five with mates is a temporary weight gain of about 6lb smile

It's not rocket science.

Look at yourself in a mirror wearing just a pair of shorts.

If you are happy with what you see great.

If not, do something about it, nobody is going to do it for you.

Bear in mind you can't expect to look at 50 like you did at 20, you have to be realistic. biggrin

When I first started contracting another contractor said " if you are not doing a 10 pound st, you are not on a high enough hourly rate" still not sure if he meant getting paid £10 in the time it took or 10lb in weight because he could afford to eat in expensive places.

A few months of Mounjaro to get to your ideal weight and then just make a bit of effort to maintain that.

Easy peasy. Although a little more expensive now than it was.

500 would make a bit of difference. Hyperbole I accept but it would change things a little.

No too precious about weight on a scale, every few months I'll have my body fat measured, scales obviously involved.

Only really been bothered about scale readings if making weight for sport. Those days are gone now (46 now), I still keep within certain body fat percentage, keeps my weight within a range.

Yes, that's about it. It doesn't need to be too technical.

I'm not far off 50 and I can still fit into the dinner suit I bought as a student and I am probably pretty much the same shape.

Funnily enough, I eat healthily and have been very active and trained in the years since.

What scales are you using? I'd be interested to know the other stats beyond simple weight measurement, more out of curiosity than a desire to change anything I'm doing. If my clothes still fit as they have for the last 30+yrs then it's all OK. I'm just waiting for flares to come back into fashion.
