Feels to me like there's a big disconnect between car makers and screenwash peddlers. The last half a dozen cars I've run have had washer bottles with capacities of about 3.5-4 litres, yet we're still being sold 5 litre containers of screen wash Silly.

My old 2004 X5 4.8iS had a 7.4 litre screen wash bottle in it.

It's crazy isn't it, so much waste having to use it all at once

You think they'd do specific sizes wouldn't you

Silly? Very but not the screenwash peddlers.

I remember the screen wash bottle in the Z4M didn't hold any screen wash, because the bottle leaked it all onto the floor! hehe

You can buy smaller containers.

You can keep the leftovers to top it up later! Better than paying over the odds for small sizes.

Top tip - freeze the leftover screenwash in an ice cube tray, for when you run out of washing up liquid..;)

Our Toyota? At least 4 litres.
Our MX-5? About two large mugs of tea...

Thank god someone else is talking about this! We’re all being caught up in the big screenwash manufacturers scam.

I’ve written to my MP about this on a number of occasions but to no avail. Hopefully we can get some traction on this issue if enough of us do the same

My 1 series seems to hold gallons of the stuff. I genuinely can’t remember the last time I filled it up.

I do about 12k miles a year as well mainly motorway and dual carriageway.

This is the thing. First I tried to drink the rest but just struggled to keep it down so now I fill the car up and have to throw the rest away. And then I use a litre and I haven't got any top up in the garage so I have to go out and buy another whole 5 litres.

I just find this so wasteful. If only there was someone like you in my family then I could get them to drink it. You're lucky.

I don’t think I’ve ever consciously known the screen washer capacity of any car I’ve ever known as just fill them up when needed.
I must have once bought a ready mixed 5 litre container and use that to make up the wash from a concentrate.

Is that bad? I buy ready mixed for one of my cars - an expensive manufacturer one (which will be identical) for another car.

Well certainly in my local shop Halfords it works out as rather more expensive, and you have no control over the level of concentration, ie weaker in the summer and good and strong for a really cold snap.

£6 from Amazon and I probably only fill once a year. I find it far easier than mixing it myself - I've also never worked out concentrations based on the weather.
