Initial report was from Newcastle, may not be the case.

Usual speculation already on Twitter.

Horrible feckers whatever their reason.

I wouldn't fancy being stuck on a train with a rampage going on. Must have been frightening.

Awful. I can imagine a group of Saturday revellers make containment by the emergency services a particularly arduous proposition - hats off to them.

3 hours and no comment on who it was? Only one conclusion. If they came across on a boat this country will blow

Incredible amount of emergency services vehicles at the station.

Reading on Twitter it's terror related but to be taken with a pinch of salt I guess.

Our boat is moored under the bridge going in to this station. The sound of the sirens is heartbreaking. Thoughts to all those involved.

I only hope the outcome is less serious than feared.

Given what the various political party leaders are saying it sounds rather serious, they no doubt have way more details than the public

The police response at the scene is absolutely massive, something big has happened there. Awaiting the facts...

Would asylum seekers (the majority of boat arrivals claim asylum upon arriving) be travelling by train though? Where would they be going? And how would they fund it?

I am not sure, though of course this is complete speculation.

It could easily be a fight between blokes / groups, but also if terrorism claims are true, then a single or pair of attackers like the London bridge thing a few years back maybe.

I'm sure we will find out when their police are ready to tell us - they are well aware after Southport about how a lack of info cab be filled by idle minds - which is what I'm doing of course.

For an incident that was first reported to the Police three and a half hours ago the official statements remain remarkably short on detail and the comments from government sources simultaneously serious but vague.

Since the emergency services response is evidently enormous this vacuum is bound to generate speculation despite the unsurprising official requests not to comment or speculate.

Whatever happened it certainly appears to be horrific for those directly involved. Which is tragic.

You do realise the sty government gives them an allowance and doesnt do much to keep tabs on illegals movements

IF they are illegals. Then its not going to take much for this to blow up spectacularly!

We're by and large peaceful people. But there's a lot of people out there who have less patience and more temper and more baseball bats. And I can see things worse than a few riots coming along! I can well imagine tooled up groups going out and taking revenge on any and all illegal migrants in their way.
