Just noticed a screw in our tyre, I’m assuming it can’t be repaired given how close it is to the side wall? But thought I’d check before I order another, shame as it’s less than a month / 1,000 miles old!

I would ask a tyre place, some repairs they can't do themselves but can still be repairable by a specialist.

Have you got an actual puncture or is it just embedded in the side of the tyre?

It hasn’t lost pressure. Just noticed the screw when getting in the car

Oof, nasty. Is it a front or rear tyre?

That is right in the sidewall, I personally wouldn't want that on my car repaired or not.

A tyre place in my view will say no to repairing by themselves or a specialist.

I have been in a very similar situation with a screw like that just a little further in at the edge of the tread, same 1000 miles...

It is infuriating but it got replaced for IIRC around £220 as a 21" tyre.

Take it out and see what happens? I take it that tyre’s on a 4x4 off some description, I’d take it out and if nothing happens just leave it. But that’s me, your risk appetite might be different.

Do you have a spare? Pulling it out could strand you but at some point you do need to know.

Well I do but I have no idea if the OP does. His choice I guess.

Thanks all. It’s our “family” car, so I guess best to bite the bullet than risking it. Gutted as they are £400 a corner, and this will be the seventh tyre on it this year! Think I’ll get the tyre insurance this time…

£400 a tyre ?????

gold dust there.

I doubt any tyre place will touch it, but equally, it does look like a very small screw. I've DIY'd such holes myself with a plug kit, although that one is a little further into the sidewall.

I'd take the screw out and see what happens, how long etc it is ? If it hasn't gone down at all, you might be really really lucky and it's a very short screw.

Or not.

Remove the screw & see what happens.

It might not be actually puncturing the tyre.

If it is, then it is 100% non-repairable as it is in the side wall.

For the sake of £400 I’d be taking it out and seeing what happens. I’ve had a few of them over the years and apart from one that needed a repair, no issues.

£400.00

Where are you getting your tyres from?

Have a look at camskill.co.uk

Assume Range Rover / Land Rover given it’s a LR fitment and noise cancelling.

I’ll try taking it out and praying!

It’s a Discovery and I buy the tyres from Black Circles. Looks like Camskill don’t stock the ones we have on it - Pirelli Scorpion Zero All Season NCS - 285/40/22. We do use the car on mud and grass, and with trailers behind, find these to be pretty good in these conditions and not noisy on the motorway.
