The bit of rubber trim on the top of my 2013 Renault Trafic Windscreen has popped out. I've pushed it back in once before so I need to do something more permanent.

It's hard to make out but this image might help (not my van!):

1) Is it supposed to be weather proof?
2) Is it held in by adhesive or just the springyness of the rubber?
3) Is adhesive a valid 'bodge' solution? I'm kind of reluctant. Of can the rubber be revitalized somehow?
4) Can someone give me a source of after market new ones?
5) What's it's correct name?

I'm guessing it's held in place by the rubber itself, it's got brittle and the 'proper' fix it to buy a new one.

Many thanks in advance.

Up to 2014 they all had a 'top trim' or moulding. It slots onto the glass edge before the windscreen is fitted. From 2014 on the design was without one (just a gap) so if you don't have one on yours it won't do any harm (the windscreen is glazed directly to the chassis (commonly known as bonded).

Thanks. So will I be able to fit a new one with the screen in place? Is a new one likely to stay put?

I'll also try just ripping it off and see how it looks.

I'd leave it off. But if you really want it on, you're going to have to press it back onto the glass edge (which is easier when the glass is out of the vehicle).

It's come off so it may well be loose. If it is, run a thin bead of butyl in the channel before pushing it back into place.
