Maintaining free Tax with the upcoming budget
Discussion
Yes, I know it’s not free, but zero rate. However, I had to call the thread something.
With rumours of the scrapping of the zero rate band for historic vehicles, I thought it wise to give myself another season at least.
So this is just a reminder for those that have not yet done this; just SORN your vehicle and then re-tax it at the current zero rate the following day. At least then you’ll have the benefit of paying nothing until November 2026.
You’re welcome

You don't need to SORN. Just re-tax whenever you like and you will get 12 months more. With rumours of the scrapping of the zero rate band for historic vehicles, I thought it wise to give myself another season at least.

And if you do SORN you can't re-tax online within 5 days - at least that was the situation earlier this year.
We don’t know what is going to happen, it could be that they freeze the category like the did last time, so if the car is historic it stays that way, they could scrap it for everyone, they could do nothing, they could do X, Y, or Z that we haven’t even considered.
I think they have the misconception that everyone with a classic car is swimming in money and that this would be some sort of tax on the ‘rich’, when the majority aren’t in that situation.

Mainly due to spaffing too much money on old cars.I think they have the misconception that everyone with a classic car is swimming in money and that this would be some sort of tax on the rich , when the majority aren t in that situation.

I think this information should be spread to as many classic car owners as possible. If we all did this now then there would be virtually no revenue to be raised for the first year which may make Rachel thieves think twice about scraping the concession.
Nothing to do with revenue - it would be another policy of envy . Let’s hope it doesn’t happen
Fly, have a look at this thread I started about 3 weeks ago for some ideas and thoughts of others: https://www.pistonheads.com/gassing/topic.asp?h=0&...
